Went to see the new Ghostbusters movie last night.

Now I don't actually watch movies for wam scenes, as they're inevitably not up to the standards a wam producer can achieve, the kind of long lingering views of a gunging happening or the aftermath that we want to see would ruin the pacing of most movies, but nevertheless I do take note of interesting scenes or ideas with a view to either shooting or buying actual wam-producer versions.

General Overview

It's a good movie. Fun characters, entertaining plot that works in the world it's set in, loads of homages to the original Ghostbusters, several cameos from the original cast, and great sfx. The story is new, not a re-hash of the original, and as long as you're willing to suspend disbelief, manages to be both exciting and funny at the same time, which is a pretty hard thing to achieve. There are a couple of genuine "make the audience jump out of their seats" moments. The 3D is used very well indeed too - including one of the slimings where the ectoplasm appears to be leaping out of the screen and coming straight for you.

It's also worth waiting till the very end of the credits - though I'm one of the people who always does that anyway, but in this case there's an Easter egg.

Fetish perspectives: Workwear - women in boilersuits

This is a great movie for fans of women in proper boilersuits, all four Ghostbusters spend quite a lot of the film wearing them, and as well as the action scenes where they also have all their equipment strapped on, there's also a nice scene in their base where they are in their jumpsuits but minus the proton packs, etc, and the camera angles include some nice three quarter rear views of Kate McKinnon where we can see how the elastic-waisted suit fits her figure nicely.

We also get to see Kirsten Wiig in already slightly gunge-splattered grey dungarees in the opening act.

However, having said all that, none of the cast actually get slimed in their boilersuits. They do plenty of running around (and at one point one of them getting thrown around an alleyway by out of control equipment), so lots of nice action shots in the suits, but no gunging.

Fetish perspectives: Gunge

There are a couple of fairly minor slimings in the film. Kate McKinnon receives what is probably the best one, quite near the start when a floating apparition blasts her full in the face and the slime flows down her front. She's wearing a fairly dowdy "scientist's office" outfit, and gets a fair bit on her jacket, blouse, and skirt, but other than her receiving it full in the face and a little aftermath we don't see that much. However if the scene was captured in any "making of" scenes it may be worth looking out for as she said in an interview(1) that to film the scene they laid her down on the floor and "poured slime all over me". However according to a TV interview(2), she didn't enjoy it much.

So, overall a damn good movie and well worth seeing. From a wam perspective, lets hope there is a sequel and that the team get properly slimed (or even better go wading waist-deep in a river of slime, with both stepping in and climbing out shots) in their jumpsuits the next one.

Agreed, but this is not one of them (or the new mad max, another excellent remake). You can still love the original AND this one, OR not. YMMV.

I saw in the trailer there was an appearance of the Marshmallow man. Did it explode and the ghostbusters got covered?

I think you should do a parody I'm sure you could find some beige or grey overalls and four of your girls to model them, then lay on a load of slime.

If I can find boilersuits that look like the ones from the film, would be very tempted to do that. The overalls would need to be a good match though, would want to do it right.

Couple of issues, first that's from the 80s films, not the new one, but more of a problem, it's "size tent": One Size to fit (Chest: 44 Waist: 50) - I take a 42 or 44 in boilersuits, have a 38" waist, and I'm a 6' tall, 16 stone bloke. While boilersuits are meant to be a bit baggy, that's going to utterly drown the average size 8-14 female wam model, even the larger girls would struggle with it. It's about size 26 or 28 in female I think.

The inflatable proton pack is cool though - I have a feeling that's what they had a woman on "This Week" (Thursday late night political chat programme) wearing when she was reporting from Waterloo Station (where there's a giant Stay Puft figure advertising the film) last week. The suit looked different but was also miles too big for the lass.

Update: Here's a proper Ghostbusters 2016 outfit, in female sizes. Only issue being it's 120 quid. Anyone want to sponsor us a couple of these (size M) for a potential green gunge shoot?

Sadly, it sounds like they overlooked my favorite moment from the original: Marshmallow goo raining down on Sigourney Weaver after they destroy the Sta-Puft man. And then a doctored up Sigourney with marshmallow fluff in her hair during the parade scene in the closing credits.

Sure, each was only on the screen for about half a second, but collectively these were high points for my pre-teen years!

Yeah, i've seen a lot of people wearing these costumes while promoting the film (photos with the car, selling cinema tickets etc) and they look really cheap. Like they're made out of paper. Very shapless and unflattering. The ones from the new film have a little elastic in the waist and it really defines the figure. God how i wished that film had a scene where they all became possessed and incredibly horny. Starting throwing slime all over each other and getting nude.

How about using that idea in your own production hahaha

Very expensive, but its quite close to the real deal. If we can find 60 people to back this video and everyone put in £2, we'd have a great outfit!

Sigourney has a cameo, but she remains clean. Sorry!

LOL! We don't do nudity but we certainly do women throwing slime over each other and enjoying it!

The real question people should ask is: what does slime have to do with ghosts?
Have the writers of Ghostbusters (1, 2 and 3) ever studied allegedly real ghost paranormal cases? I don't recall anyone getting "slimed".

We have a ghost in the dungeon, variously alleged to be either the Sixth Earl of Langstonedale, or Lady Forthright, the Fourth Earl's wife, who was apparently really keen on the health-giving properties of fully clothed mud baths. This apparition has been known to occasionally throw buckets of water over people, seemingly especially if they do not show proper deference to the blue Jasperware custard tureen. But then this is a household with along history of messy play.

As I remember a female character in a rather nice all white outfit gets spectacularly drenched in purple slime while in the other realm in one of the Poltergeist movies, did those come before or after the first Ghostbusters?

In some tellings of the tale the vampire Count Dracula has to rest in the earth of his native land, and hence has trunks full of it shipped with him wherever he goes, given the vampire legend is said by some to be based on truth, is this an example of messiness in the paranormal?

In general though ghosts are more usually reported to turn onlookers to jelly rather than sliming them with it. I still want to see the four new ghostbusters take a slime bath in their jumpsuits though!

The slime in GB is meant to be a form of "ectoplasm"...a slimey or nearly immaterial substance believed to be exuded upon a discarnate entity (ghost) entering or leaving the physical realm...the term (ectoplasm) was coined sometime during the Age of 'Spiritualism' (late 1800's - 1920's)...when people flocked to seances and mediums to contact the dead...

Personally, I think it's great that ectoplasm became slime in the modern horror film genre (spoof or straight)...wish someone would take it to the logical extreme

Historical note: Houdini and the famed mentalist Dunninger were big crusaders against the fraudulent 'industry' of spirit guides and mediums...ironically, Sir Author Conan Doyle was a BIG believer in spiritualism (his wife was a medium), despite having invented the icon of rational logic: Sherlock Holmes...His friendship with Houdini suffered due to their opposing stances on spiritualism and life after death (he believed that Houdini 'dematerialized' his body to escape from his entrapments).
