Hello happy wammers. The next time you post a new forum topic, you'll notice that you can specify if it's about females, males, coeds, transsexuals, or n/a. One will already be checked based on your prefs, but you can change it if you want, for any particular post.
This will allow us to finally tag if a post is about males and females together, plus we're finally acknowledging the Trans community here.
To go along with this, I've added the gender prefs to the top-right of the forum, and it works the same as the rest of UMD.
Please contact me on inbox if you have any issues or suggestions. Thanks everyone for all your help and suggestions--they're helping me a ton. If anyone wants to get into the technicals or whatever, I'd gladly do that on the Off-Topic forum.
Thanks! [Edit: This only applies to the Wetlook and Messy forums.]
I think it would be great if you could add the flexibility to check more than one of the female/male/coed/trans buttons at a time. Personally, I'm interested in female and coed stuff, but if you don't want "all" then you can only view one of the above options. Of course, I can toggle back and forth between them, but it's going to be hard for me to remember to keeping checking on both, so I'll probably just end up neglecting the coed stuff.
For what it's worth, right now when you check "coed," there's exactly one lonley post on the Messy forum.

That's because the content hasn't been tagged yet (I only added that option on the Post form today). I'll be spending the evening re-tagging posts that have coed content in them, so you'll see more stuff populate there shortly!
I don't have multiple-choice checkboxes for reasons of technical complexity, forum speed, etc. But if you do check the Female or Male option, the coed posts will automatically come up anyway.

Great, then I'll get exactly the stuff I want. (Assuming the tagging works as planned.)

If you see something out of place, there is a Flag for "wrong gender." Don't feel bad about using it
I'm usually smarter than this so I'll play the 'chemo brain' card.
What if WANT to see both female WAM AND specifically Males being pied by women? Okay, you can check only one option - I get it, and mine was checked female. But I still like to look for women pieing men. I am guessing if I check the Male option, I'll see a mostly gay content - not judging, just not my thing. Can you give a scenario where I'll have access to both?
Thanks for asking! If you want to see posts where both males and females are subjects in the wamming together, then Coed would be the choice (I'm still tagging posts for that). But if it's really just the guy getting pied, then Male would be the one to go for. Male doesn't make a distinction about sexual preference, only who you should expect to see receiving the wam, so you'll likely see a bit of gay content
JHub said: Okay, I follow but let me paint a scenario. I check coed content and Happy Camper sends me a PM telling me that 'the luscious Mrs. Bee just posted some great new pix'. However I don't see them because bigshipper labeled the content 'Female'. So now, in order for me to see these, I have to change my settings back to 'Female' content. Am I understanding this correctly?
You are right. I added the "Coed" option to the forum (and only to the forum) because visitors kept telling me they wanted to be able to post and find combined male/female content. If you're not in that camp, I recommend just selecting Female, which will incidentally bring up coed content too because it contains females. But not the other way around. Note that direct links to any thread will always work regardless of your setting.
JHub said:Another question; from what I read the default is automatically 'Female'. Is that true for all lurkers who come to the UMD who don't have an account or don't feel like logging in? What if a lurker, without an account, wants to see 'Coed' or 'Male' or 'Trans' content? Are they forced to sign up for an UMD account and change it in their preferences?
You don't have to be logged in or have an account to use the gender preference. But if you do have a UMD account, it will be saved with that, so it's the same wherever you log in.
For all visitors, I made it default to Female (in the forums only) so that visitors who are used to coming here wouldn't need to do anything to keep things looking the same. At least that was my goal....
I can't seem to change the setting. If I click on one of the other radio boxes (and I have tried all of them to make sure it wasn't just one), I get a message that the forum doesn't exist.
If it is any help, when I select "all" the address bar shows

I don't know how much code work would be involved, but I'd prefer to see radio buttons for "Male / Female / Coed", but then three check boxes, for "Cis" (though you could just assume that as a default), "Trans", and "CD", which worked in conjunction with the other choices.
That way someone who wants to see cis women only can do so, or indeed trans women only, but someone who's happy to see anyone who presents as female, regardless of whether cis, trans, or CD, can also do so. And likewise for those wanting to see cis men / trans men / both.
PS: Just tried to post to the Off Topic forum. Initially the preview refused to make an included link an actual link, and then when I posted it, I got "The forum does not exist". The post doesn't appear to have shown up anywhere. Side effect of the change?

That's a separate issue I'm working on related to search (thanks to piromaniac_too). It should be resolved today. [Edit: I've tested and don't see this issue; I am watching for it to happen again.]

Thanks... I strongly considered that when you mentioned it before, but I scaled it down to simply Trans to make implementing it site-wide feasible. Maybe I'll think of a way to do something like that in the future.
Regis said: Is this why I'm only seeing ten threads in the Wetlook forum right now?
Yeah, there are only 10 male wetlook posts right now. Folks haven't had the chance to tag them yet, but I'm going back and tagging them (and Coed) now, to hopefully get you some more results!
To see the Wetlook forum as it's always been, you can click the Female bubble (which is also the default if you haven't checked anything at all).
Huh ... Okay, the female bubble was selected by default and I was still only seeing the 10 threads; I clicked something else, then clicked female again, and it went back to "normal."

Thanks, I saw what was happening and updated it to not do that anymore. :dunce:
Coed isn't really a work we use here in the UK. Isn't that where girls and boys are educated at the same school?
So I tried to post a topic with both female and male WAM. I think it would be better if the options were checkboxes so that I can select both female and male. Selecting 'coed' makes me think it will show up only to people who look for coed posts, rather than people who choose either male or female, which is what I'd want.
When I hit 'save' I got an success message on a page which told me that this forum post doesn't exist. So now I don't know if it posted successfully, and I can't see it anywhere but I'm not sure if that's just because I have the wrong gender preference selected!
wtfdownloads said: Coed isn't really a work we use here in the UK. Isn't that where girls and boys are educated at the same school?
Yeah it is. I believe it's been sort of generalized online over the years to mean male and female, plus it's a nice short term. I believed that most understood it... maybe not?

I didn't do the checkboxes because it would complicate the platform by a great measure, not to mention make the whole forum slower. For now we'll rock the simpler choices and then go on from there later if we need to.
Since Coed means "male and female," then all your coed posts will show up if the visitor has Female or Male checked. The idea is for you to just tag your posts appropriately to the content that's in them, and let us handle the rest. That's the idea anyway! I'll look into the "post doesn't exist" issue!
Thanks for putting this in MM, and I'm sure folks will get to grips with it sooner or later...
For now here's a few odd things that might or might not be related. Firstly, this post had 2 'Reply' buttons for some reason...
And secondly when I tried changing from 'Female' to 'All', it also changed the theme from day to night - not sure if that is a bug or if it is trying to tell me I am wandering into darker territories
But thanks again for your efforts keeping this place going!

I appreciate it Henry. I took that extra Reply button out back and shot it. As for dark mode, that's.... I got nothin. I'll check on that!
I've made my gender selection, I view a forum topic in the messy forum, now the 'Messy Forum' button which used to be in the top left instead says 'All genders' and I keep accidentally clicking it expecting to go back to the forum listing.
It doesn't take me back (I can't see another easy one-click back, and the browser's back button isn't convenient if I'm several pages deep). But now that I've clicked it, the 'All genders' button has changed back to a 'Messy Forum' button. So I click it and I'm back in the forum, but more have to remember to reselect my gender preference in the top right.
I've been through this process several times since the change!
Does this mean that the male wam forum is going to go?
Personally, I think you should split trans into crossdressers/transvestites and transgender/transsexuals, in line with Dungeon Master's suggestion. Also, I think you need a category for threads that aren't gender specific.
Tilly said:Also, I think you need a category for threads that aren't gender specific.
When you create a post there is an N/A option, so non gender specific (discussions on substances, safety, etc) is possible - I assume these will show up in all views, MM can you confirm?

Yeah, I wasn't quite sure what to do with those breadcrumbs. I wanted to give you guys every option to back out of the filter if it was on (because, backlash). It probably does make more sense to keep that button consistent tho.

The content from the Male Wam forum already shows up on the Messy forum (when you have the Male or All selection set). Eventually the actual Male Wam forum link will be removed, but all the posts will remain here in the Messy / Wetlook forums as they are now.
I kept the gender selections few, for reasons of simplicity. I don't want to add any more, but in the future we can talk about tagging and such.

Yes, I should have said that. If you post N/A, it will show up for all gender selections so nobody will miss it. That is, except Coed and Trans--I figured people using those selections were a bit more focused on what they wanted, not a bunch of N/A posts.
