Can someone tell me if you accept a person who sends you a friend request does the fact that they are your friend change anything in the way that they see more or less of your account or posts or is it just the same that they can see if they wasn't your friend. I suppose unlike Facebook you cant see very much of someone's profile or posts if your not friends with them. Tia.
Some people set their account to only accept private messages from friends. As far as I can tell, that's the only effect of being friends with someone; unlike Facebook, you don't get any notifications when they post stuff, and you don't see any extra pictures.
Generfally when I get a friend request I quickly check the person's profile, and as long as they aren't a screaming nazi or broadcasting 5g conspiracy bollocks, I accept the request.
As far as I can see so far it doesn't seem to make any difference to anything in terms of forum post visibility, though there may be subtlties to it I'm unaware of. It may have an effect on whether somneone can send you private messages or not, I think the default is now that PMs can only be sent by people you've already accepted as a friend, as part of the moves to suppress harassment of new female members a while back. It's configurable in the settings/profile.
Thank you both. We seem to get a lot of requests from people who have been here days and it just un-nerves me a little but if they are seeing exactly what I'm doing without being friends it's not a problem I guess.

That reminds me of this peice of utter brilliance from itsagaz some years back - arguably still the best UMD post ever!

Yep, being a confirmed woman AND into this fetish certainly draws attention. You probably have more friend requests today than I have had in the 22 years I have been on here Hell, I'll take the 5g nutters and frothing Nazis! (I draw the line at homeopaths though).

LOL! I have occasionally wondered, if I didn't have any ethics or a consience, just how much a) money and b) WAM footage I could make if I set up a homeopathic clinic offering healing, fully clothed, full immersion treatment, in either pure homeopathic water, or special imported healing mud, all in a clinic with Faraday cage rooms to keep out the evil electrical signals.
Patients would be issued with crisp tailored boilersuits or nurse-style dresses, depending on whether they more usually wear trousers or skirts, as the areas of our skin that are usually covered require a more filtered treatment than those which are exposed to the air.
Given there's someone out there selling magic anti-5g crystal USB keys that supposedly put some kind of shield round you, or your entire house, for £795 each (a friend shared the link on FB earlier today), I suspect there is an absolute fortune to be made selling utter woo to rich idiots, and filming it too.

It's not just rich idiots, it's the romantics. People want to believe in more than there is. Science is very cold and we all like a little magic hence religion, stories, 'magic' etc.
Problems occur when you pray on the scared, ignorant or desperate. I have an issue when they charge for things that a. don't do any good, b. they lie about and c. stop people going to the real healers. I only have an issue with all the pseudo-sciences when it harms others.
A few weeks ago I had a run in with a chiropractor, he didn't like what I said (tough) and threatened me with legal action (good luck) and spreading what I said across my colleges and work place (illegal). Nice guy.
Sorry, hit a nerve, derailing the thread...sooooo, who wants to be my friend? Can't fathom why I'm not more popular...
I've had a lot more friend requests recently. I adopt the same rule of thumb as Dm1, as long as someone's been around a few days, I accept it, as it doesn't change anything.
I would just like to add, as the daughter of an amazing homeopath and an alternative therapist myself, I have seen some astounding results, so although it's not for everyone, I feel they do have some merit.
My Friend Requests always demand a pint of my blood & that we meet in a cemetery at midnight while performing a ritual with candles & ancient texts. I think I may be saying "Yes" to the wrong kind of friends.

Peace xx
That's why I walk the same line as Silver Sea here "a. don't do any good, b. they lie about and c. stop people going to the real healers. I only have an issue with all the pseudo-sciences when it harms others."
Having been chronically ill for so long I sought out anything and everything that would just give me some relief.
For instance I've had a number of people do reiki on me. Most of them haven't done a damn thing for me. But there is one woman my old blacksmith teacher introduced me to who no lie, temporarily made my pain stop. She would actually press into my body at pressure points and her hands would get feverishly hot. When she was done pressing in my knee joints, my arthritic pain was GONE. It would be back the next day, and I still had trouble walking, but this woman could kill my pain in ways that nothing else short of dilaudid could do
Most of the time she never charged me a thing. Often times she'd sent me home with things like aroma theraputic candles, sage, or incense to help me calm myself to reduce the pain and she wouldn't charge me. So yeah, results may vary.
Back on topic. Regarding friends, others have hit the nail on the head. It doesn't have anything to do with forum visibility or interaction. It DOES have to do with private message and the like if you set it that way. Last I remember, all women profiles were defaulted to have those applicable privacy settings to on.

Hmm... I don't remember the cemetery. Just Ping Pong, and some really interesting math equations on outcome of human interactions.
