I don't comment/post in here, but this is probably the best place to ask.
I am looking to build my own sploshing/wam room in my new flat and need advice about making a gunge tank. I want to make some content for O/F (hopefully).
I bought a PVC backdrop on Amazon, along with all the camera gear. A friend got me some very thick polythene sheet for the floor. But it's the actual gunge tank that I cannot work out. Are they available to buy anywhere?
I remember seeing a post in here, where someone was making the gunge release bit, but not the actual gungetank. I do have a friend who is willing to help me build what I need. But I don't know where to start.
Also instead of going the complex tank immediately, you could simply have someone poor it on you while you sit. Visit the man and the wife to see how they are doing things without a dunk tank.. maybe an inflatable pool with a plastic tarp in it to make things easy on the cleaning.
This is something that's been on my "to do" list for a while, and I have a 31 page Word document with notes, photos, etc.
The most important issue is strength: 1 litre of water = 1 kg, so 50L would be the same weight as a person! You don't want that crashing down on your head.
Aside from that, think about dimensions. E.g. do you want to be able to stand up inside the tank (booth)? Start out with the height of the booth, then add on the height of the vat above it, then add some extra height above that so that you can pour in the gunge. Can you fit that in before you hit the ceiling?
A while back, someone here (who subsequently deleted their profile) set up the vat in the attic, then they had a fake extractor fan in their bathroom ceiling (above the bath). That way, when they wanted to use it, they could remove the fake fan and put in a tube, but there was no problem with height and the weight of the vat was spread across the ceiling joists. However, if you live in a flat then your upstairs neighbours might complain
In the short term, you might be better off teaming up with another producer. I'm pretty sure that RevSlymsford has borrowed/hired JeremyCustard's tank (with the purple frame).
If there is anyone who thinks this could be re-configured to operate from a website (by say paying fans), then this might be worth the effort. I asked the techy bods at work last night (not telling what it actually was) and they said in theory you could make it do anything if you reprogrammed it?

I'd agree that it's theoretically possible, but I don't know how easy it would be in practice. You could set up port forwarding from the internet to your home network, but that's not ideal. It would probably be better to have an external website where people can click buttons, then have a program running on a laptop at home which will poll the external website to get the current state ("Has anyone clicked?") and then send a command to the gunge tank website. Maybe a Python script?
I emailed the Ebay listing and he has apparently got hold of the software that makes it work. This in means (I think), that I can find someone to make it do what I want.
I am going to ask my friend to build a timber frame and put a plastic tank on it. Then bolt that big gunge valve underneath it. They have big plastic tanks in B&Q. I am going to B&Q tomorrow anyway to buy some lights for filming.
Its the only thing I can find that will possibly work with thick gunge - which is what I prefer. All the others seem very small and I don't like watery goo.
Now got to google a decent camera and microphone. Thank you for your help
Looks like you've got a lot of options. I make and sell a gunge tank valve that is probably a bit more competitively priced vs some of the ones you've shown. One of the main things I would be extremely cautious of is the combining of electronics and wet or messy things, make sure whatever youre using is very well isolated or has been checked over by a qualified person. We really don't want you to come to an harm. All that said I am currently working on a full tank kit that im hoping will be available later this year. In the mean time if you want any info on set ups then pleased feel free to drop me a message.
