Very very random (and potentially gross) one but has anyone ever suffered from any ear blockages after getting messy?
I got myself messy a week ago with a cake in the face and some natural yoghurt and trifle over my head, nothing major. But then started having a blockage in my ear and I can't hear out of it...could be a coincidence with built up wax or something but I'm freaking out that it's to do with getting messy
I have been experiencing weird stuff with my ears for sure, so I know what you're talking about. The only thing I can recommend is going to your physician and asking for an ear cleaning, they may be able to flush your ears and that might help.
An occupational hazard from enjoying messy fun, except it's no fun when it happens
You're right, it's probably just a coincidence but nonetheless it's no doubt annoying.
Being in the UK, your friendly local GP probably won't offer ear syringing as a service any more. You could try a few drops of olive oil into the ear canal, repeated over a couple of days, which will soften any wax and should ease things so you can hear again. Boots (or similar) will also have various drops to achieve the same thing...
Yeah, had that with commercial gunge, shifted it with Otex ear drops. I now use foam ear plugs when I'm doing photo shoots. It wasn't a very pleasant experience that I wanted to repeat!
Ear plugs are definitely the way to go for preventing this -- I actually noticed a few of the models from Mostwam wearing them in some of their newer scenes.
Ear blockages are a perpetual issue for me, especially if anything is poured over my head. The one time I've been in a gunge tank it took about a week for me ears to feel back to normal.
To be honest it's a relief to hear it's not just me as you regularly see models doing repeated head dunking, full body submersion etc in scenes but never hear of any ear issues afterward, though I assume there must be some from time to time.
I would also recommend ear plugs, the type designed for swimming have worked well for me.
I've started using Earol Swim spray before getting muddy - it's a light oil like most ear drops, but in a spray bottle that makes it easy to coat the ear canal in a film of it. While I never had actual blockages or infections before, using the spray does reduce how much mud sticks in there and makes it easier to clean out. It's made for swimmers and divers, so should be fine to use regularly.
Visit your general practitioner and request an appointment with an ENT (Ear/Nose/Throat) specialist. They'll get you cleared up. After that, definitely use ear plugs.

WTF? I got my ears syringed last year by my local PCP (primary care physician). Then, later last year, got an eardrum pierced, twice, and drained, by an ear nose throat specialist.
Swimming ear plugs as mentioned (the gel ones) are low cost and virtually invisible.
I've had a problem with ear wax over production all my adult life and need to clear them regularly. This can lead to foreign substances becoming trapped. Sometimes blockages are a sign of an underlying problem like an infection so it's always better to seek professional medical advice in the first instance.
Over the last 30 years in the UK GP surgeries have become increasingly reluctant to carry out out ear syringing and now virtually none will do it, most claiming that the procedure is no longer covered by their liability insurance.
I'm sure there are some private practices who offer it at a cost - but the last decade I've resorted to doing it myself. I do this at my own risk and this does not constitute a recommendation. I soften the earwax before I carry this out with a course of Otex (contains peroxide, so use sparingly) before squirting warm, salty water into the ear. It can take a long time (over a few sessions) but it works a treat. Olive oil will do nothing for a chronic wax problem.
I get blockages regularly, especially now that I'm getting older. I gently syringe my own, First with warm water to break things up, then with hydrogen peroxide to kill any would be infections, then follow up with warm water again.
Don't go crazy so you don't harm your inner ear. This little guy pictured is all I use and it works wonders.
