MPV will continue but new production has ceased. Available content will likely run out next September-October. Dave posted this at QSF a few days ago.
Retiring from Shooting Postby dlodoski Mon Oct 28, 2019 9:47 am
Hi Folks,
Due to circumstances beyond my control, I have decided to hang up my cameras.
It's been a really good run of 21 years and 22+ seasons of shooting. But due to piracy, market saturation and a general loss of interest/attention, continued production will inevitably lead to a decrease in quality. It's always preferable to quit while on top. So, I am taking that option.
I would like to sincerely acknowledge the feelings of those who have truly supported MPV over the years. I know that your support came with the sensation that this sort of thing couldn't happen. I feel bad about that. In fact, this situation is incredibly nuanced, and I could ramble on about dozens of subtexts related to all of this.
In any case, thank you to all who have supported my efforts over the years. It would have lasted this long without a lot of help.
Looking ahead, I will continue to share what I have, both commercially and otherwise.
It's sad he's retiring. I used to join once a year or so to buy clips. That said, it was RIDICULOUS to have to join the members site just to BUY CLIPS. I seriously hope that no other producer ever does something like that in the future.
I quit producing for the exact same reasons Dave, good luck mate. I don't think there are any more Mud only Producers here any more. I guess the pirates finally won
Dave was a high quality producer. I imagine those mud locales he set up were costly to maintain. He had a very good eye for subtle things that made his videos way above average - like the use of the existing lighting where he shot, the comely women he chose to work with, and how he directed them so as to get natural responses. It was so nice to see people getting muddy out in nature.

Hopefully someone will step up and fill the void.
I got news for you. There were good reasons that have been explained many times why MPV was the way it was. I feel quite confident that you don't have to be concerned about anyone doing it again like that or any other way. Yeah...
Messmaker88 said: 21+ years? wow I had no idea MPV has been around so long.
It came as a surprise to us too. MPV had been doing original work for that long but Dave established the MPV BBS in 1994.The world's first online WAM/Mud/Qs archive. Ask your granny what a BBS is if you don't know.

For certain Dave was pretty fussy about getting it to look right. No tarps on the walls, no walls actually, or bad lighting. Sound quality and editing was his pride and glory. You didn't hear cars going by or cameras clicking or anything he would rate as a "buzzkill". Maintaining that magic, that zone, for the viewer was huge for him.
Thanks to all of you. I'll make certain he sees this.

Of course, after I bought all of the producers videos from mpv to mud matches to quicksand and this is what happens y'all stop and literally drop out of the air with crappy content or just quitting for good, it is trumps economic screwing up with the country making people piracy and that's why all y'all don't exist anymore. All y'all should still make good content for the community and fuck the pirates, this pisses me of bad to where I'm gonna have to find another source for mud by any means, BY DOING IT MYSELF OR me and a hot female actress making mud videos in the middle of nowhere to bring it back to life if y'all don't stand up and produce till y'all can't produce no more and there is still atleast a few more decades in MUD PUDDLE VISUALS AND MUD MATCHES AND MESSYGIRL VIDEOS. NEDDS TO COME BACK WITH A BANG AND NOT GET BURIED UNDER THE RUG
the day when i have to make this post due to piracy, being one of the reasons.....is gonna be a fucked up day.
but yo, look at your sales, producers. its gonna happen. and customers? you wanna NOT see this happen (bc this dude is brilliant with a camera and damnit this sucks)
BUY YOUR STUFF!! WE HAVE OVERHEAD!!!
im so sad to see this. i am a huge fan. dave is great. this is a sad post.....
It is truly sad to see Dave retire after such a long run of fulfilling our fantasies.

You do realize, don't you, that it is the pirated videos that reduce the cash flow, and hence, the ability of producers to produce the content we love? When people download illegal free copies, they are not supporting the producers, and the producers can't hire models, travel to locations, maintain equipment, etc. etc. Wam producers are lucky to break even, but the more piracy spreads, the more losses they take, until it just doesn't make sense to produce more content.
Looking at the discussion above let's look just a bit at some WAM definitions and divisions -
While piracy was only one of several contributing factors in the decision it targeted one specific area where MPV was the 800 pound gorilla - quicksand fetish. This was the reason for the creation of MPV and without gratuitous boasting I can claim MPV was the heavyweight champion of the world in this arena. If people shared an occasional video or something well that's one thing but to post it to a file sharing mafia like some places we won't mention the loss is greatly multiplied. When you consider that QS is a small niche fetish the loss is magnified proportionally. If that costs you roughly 10 or 20 percent of your profit margin in a highly competitive environment then you can't operate any longer.
Mud gets the most play here at UMD just because that's what more of this audience is about. There are certainly others who do it well but differently. We all have preferences. Dave doesn't want to compromise the style at MPV just to keep shooting. Like he says it's better to retire at the top of the game. We had the most excellent fun you can imagine for over 20 years. Best not to get greedy. It's done.
Say to hear that Dave'll be retiring (though he'll probably enjoy all the new free time XD) and that there'll be no new content come this time next year (if i understand the OP right).
I'm happy to hear that MPV will continue with all the existing content though. MPV is and was the trendsetter and 'king of the hill' when it came to mud videos.
All the lovely, comely ladies who've done videos for MPV. All of the different types of mud videos, from scenarios to just sheer playfulness in the mud.
You, good sir, will be greatly missed as the WAM mud legend.
Thank you for the amazing videos. It truly was a work of art. I'm sorry to hear the unfortunate news. Best of luck to you guys. Thanks again for your contribution

I just figure they ran out of ideas and don't wanna make content anymore. It ain't the piracy... I've spent over 2,000 dollars on these producers and so have others and this is what we get.... them to stop making mud videos after they've pocketed all our cash for them to say "it's the pirated videos that get you to lose money... well look at this movies out in the real world get pirated all the time and they still continue to make more movies and content... it's because of the price of it AND THEIR PROFITS THEY STILL MAKE MONEY... it's called lower the price AND YOU'LL HAVE MORE CUSTOMERS... IVE DONE FETISH STUFF FOR FREE MULTIPLE TIMES BECAUSE I LOVE THE HOBBY OF GETTING MESSY AND DONT CARE ABOUT THE CASH AND ITS STILL GREAT CONTENT... I SOMEONE.... who would EVEN THINK THEY wanna take out 20$ out of their check for food and instead spend it on their fetish charging up to 18$ a video and I've BEEN ONE OF THEM PEOPLE TO CHOSE A VIDEO OVER FOOD AND bought some of them multiple times to support the producers ONLY TO FIND OUT HOW GREEDY YALL PRODUCERS ARE AND HOW BUTTHURT YALL CAN GET... I was a fan of all you producers but now I realize y'all are Just greedy ass people looking to become rich off of a fetish when I'm on a fixed income (social security) and I still pour out decent cash every month UPWARDS OF 45-60$. Mud type videos were the only videos worth buying for the price and watching over and over but it gets kinda old especially after watching it a few dozen times... WE NEED MORE MUD VIDEOS AND FUCK THE PIRACY, YALLL MOTIVATED TO PRODUCE FOR A HIGH ASS PRICE AND PRETTY SHITTY STORY LINES UNLESS ITS WITH THE MODELS WE ALL WANT LIKE KIMBERLY JANE AND BECAUSE YOU DONT GET THE PAY YOU WANT YOU JUST QUIT... ITS LIKE YOUR PART OF TRYING TO GET RICH OFF OTHER PEOPLES FANTASIES THAT THEY CAN DO ON THEIR OWN, GET AND WATCH FOR FREE WITHOUT HAVING TO FEEL LIKE WERE ROBBED FOR A VIDEO THAT SHOULD ONLY BE 10-15$ max x 40 people = 600$, AND WHOS NOT MAKING MONEY... PLEASE STOP WITH THAT BS... 600$ on the low end per video made upwards of 1,000$ per video. JUST TELL THE COMMUNITY THE TRUTH THAT YOUR GREEDY AND WANT TO MAKE MILLIONS LIKE EVERY OTHER PRODUCTION COMPANY AND STOP LYING, WE ARE SMARTER THAN YOU THINK MESSYGIRL, MUD MATCHES, MUDMADPHIL, MUD PUDDLE VISUALS. ITS NOT THE COMMUNITY... ITS YOURSELVES... BOY... TRUMP SURE DOES SCREW EVERYONES LIVES BECAUSE THIS DIDNT OCCUR DURING OBAMAS PRESIDENCY EVERYONE TRYING TO GET STUFF FOR FREE... PAY YOU DUES AND PAY THE PRODUCERS... IF NOT YOU ARENT PART OF THE WAM COMMUNITY... YOU HAVE TO CONTRIBUTE TO THIS COMMUNITY IF YOU WANT THE COMMUNTY TO SURVIVE AND THRIVE AND IVE DONE MY PART.

It's impossible to say who might pop up. There are already other producers and MPV will continue to release existing content for 10-11 months..
Wow, this really is a loss. I remember back in the 1990s reading about MPV in Rob Blaine's "Messy News" newsletter, including how their brand new internet domain name was "mudpuddlevisuals.com" because someone in the Far East had registered "mpv.com" for "Multi Purpose Ventures". That was back when three letter domains were still available and most WAM material was sold mail-order on VHS cassettes. MPV truly were one of the original big hitters of the WAM production world. They also did quicksand scenes, which require a lot more in terms of effort, and I imagine cost, than the kind of riverbank or estuary mud scenes that we do at Langstonedale, or the Moomins do down in the South West. Only other producer I know of off hand who does deep mud is Mike Nomic, also in the South West.
As to the argument that people should just go on producing things anyway regardless of piracy - have you ever shot a WAM video? It's not a cheap hobby. Even here in the UK where model fees are way less than I gather they are in the US shooting a day of scenes still costs hundreds of dollars. First you have to find people not just willing, but enthusiastic to take part. Then you need cameras, transport, fuel, computers to edit the video on, broadband Internet to upload it, and if you're a serious producer with your own sites, you also need to buy or rent servers, and pay for hosting space in a datacentre to keep them in, and unless you happen to already be a techie, you'll probably need to pay people to run and maintain your site. Then you need to feed your models and crew. All of that costs money, which, unless you're already rich, has to be recovered from the sales of a scene.
On top of which, it's just basic fairness and decency that people should be fairly paid for their labour, including models and site owners.
And a final point, please don't SHOUT. Text in all-capitals is much harder to read than in normal mixed case, it doesn't make the point any more strongly, if anything it weakens it by making it harder to read.

There is so much wrong with this post and then some. Until you actually go see the numbers and overhead of a real production, you have no idea the true cost that goes into all of this and how nobody is getting rich off this little niche world. Everyone is human, people come, people go, but jeez with posts like these from so called customers who needs pirates?

If there's enough of a gap in the market I'm sure someone will come along and supply it, at least if people are willing to pay for it. But it probably won't be cheap, what MPV did was fairly specialised and with very high production values. Meanwhile though all the MPV material is still available, Dave's retiring from shooting, not closing his store or withdrawing all his content, so it'll still be out there. Certainly is the end of an era though.

Its not looking good. Muddypinays are gone, Club MPV is gone. What else is left? Its just Pies and Slime and wetlook on here.
I don't know but you've got about 10 months to figure it out.
As usual, Duncan has picked up my slack on the 'social' front. We all have our weaknesses. Mine is being a partial recluse (most of the time).
In fact, if I didn't have serious help with recruiting models, MPV would have never entered actual production. I had dedicated help in this area for the two seasons we shot in LA ('98 and 2000). After that, it was almost all referrals - with a lot of help from Duncan.
As many of you know, I generally hang out at Quicksandfans.com. I would like to be more active here. We'll see how it goes.
In any case, I will be around. I have (collected) stuff yet to share. As I was quoted in the original post, I just can't keep operating at the level we're used to. It's time for summers not entirely dominated by shooting issues.
And again, thank you to all of the folks who have supported MPV over the years. You made it happen as much as anyone else.
It is truly sad to see Dave retire after such a long run of fulfilling our fantasies.

Like I said before they should do it for the love of the sport of mud wam. A ton of cash or no cash, if they're truly into the mud they'd get dirty without even expecting a penny, as do I. I get messy for the amazing feeling of being in mud, I don't care about the cash flow unlike others do, I produce for others and by myself only especially in this market with producers cutting ties left and right and wanting an arm to go with it for payment( you know what I mean ) no customer has thousands of dollars to hand out for a scene to be produced so they'd rather produce it theirselves the way they want for the cost of one video price
