This is just a joke! I'm not trying to spread misinformation! But I think that being good at sums might help avoid Covid! This is because, I heard on the news the other day, that the Government are starting maths testing, to prevent the spread! I'm off to revise my times tables!
As a Canadian, I have always supported the British for pluralizing math when discussing arithmetic because it's the one extremely rare occasion where North Americans have some basis for thinking that British grammatical conventions are dumb.
Why? Because it's a friggin mass* noun. . . . . . . . *math
Well, I've learned something new! Thanks, Nein! I didn't know that in North America you speak of "math" as the abbreviation for "mathematics!" We are divided by an ocean and a common language! I've looked at various English grammar and usage sites on the internet, and all say that both usages are correct! "Maths" is an abbreviation itself, so there is no absolute rule! It seems to be a matter of custom and practice! But my little joke does not work so well in Canada! Peter
as funny as those commercials are... (recent contemplation) they should not have used an attractive lady to represent 2020... um... can anyone direct me back to the peanut gallery?
