I hope you don't mind me posting in here, but I'm doing some research for a BAFTA winning UK independent television production company. We are in pre-production of a documentary for channel 4 in which Psychotherapist Philippa Perry will explore the UK's most popular 'alternative' sexual preferences and practices. Philippa does not believe in the distinctions 'normal' and 'abnormal' and is interested in the psychosexual roots of sexual preference. This is what she will be exploring minus any labels or judgements.

Philippa would like to meet people who are willing to talk about their desires. I have come across the WAM community and would love to find out more. If anyone is willing to have an off the record chat to me about WAM, would you mind messaging me? At this stage all I am interested in is finding out more about the community and its members, there is no question of filming or even a face to face meeting. Just a chat.

Hello all,

Just wanted to say that I had a lovely chat (for over an hour!) with one of the production researchers. She was pleasant, professional, informative and non-judgmental.

It is for a program that looks at all fetishes and is designed to be informative and enlightening, not a "Look at the odd people" style.

I say this in case anyone wanted to talk but was nervous about it; don't worry they have heard it all before and viewed it purely as research, and any information (especially insight) will help their cause and show no end.

I've seen similarly themed Channel 4 shows that were good and I think Philippa Perry is great, so I think this might be a great opportunity for the WAM community to be profiled matter-of-factly and in a positive way (not sensationally or exploitatively)... I know people have been cautious about media enquiries in the past but I'd encourage people to respond to this one.

I am not sure how much I can say about the project, but I was told it will be a fact based documentary aimed at acceptance and understanding of fetishes.

123gunge - Cheers for your advice, shame your chat with her wasn't as nice as mine. I am sceptical in some ways but hope they will do a good documentary so I gave them the information they wanted to know. Unfortunately I am unable to appear on TV due to my work (no world-wide fame for me)
Yes it's about fetishes plural (possibly another "countdown to the most popular" type of thing that seems all the rage) so sploshing will only be a small part, lost in the whole, but hopefully drawing attention to it will help others realise that it is out there and ok thus leading to more acceptance. I can only hope.
I doubt they are "going to use me" and "brush me to one side" when finished as all I am offering them is information, I also doubt they will contact me again.

Hi All - just wanted to clarify a few things!

We don't have a long list at all - just a top ten so that's why we're so keen on WAM and talking to lots of people. We actually do not get paid by results, just wanted to be accurate and we're aware that some of what we're featuring doesn't get all that much TV time usually, so we're making an effort. Sounds about right, and I bet you're right. I've come across a few, but I have had one great experience but that was direct from a production company. They got a lot from me because they approached right and asked the right questions.

The others I told them they will need to pay me for my time as they don't care for the subject.
