Charity shops. I've bought wedding dresses for as little as £20 before now, though it does depend on both where and when, as these days they'll mostly be priced between £50 and £90.
Goodwill. I have an aunt who makes a business of going to find bargains at goodwill and then sells them on ebay for a hefty profit. In particular, look for the Goodwill outlets rather than the regular stores.
Great idea, I've always liked the idea of bridal wedding reception scenes with bride, two bridesmaids and two or three wedding guests is smart, sexy formal suits, all of which get totally destroyed!
yep, goodwill, st. vincent de paul. i literally was in there YESTERDAY and their gown and bridal selection was crazy huge!!
i trashed a gown here recently i held onto for years....
they had a huge selection in st. vincents.
the prices varied from 15 to 30 dollars for huge gowns!!! usually sizing is an issue but the selection they had? i see no reason why you couldnt find one to fit nicely!
Yes, definitely try the aforementioned thrift stores. Bridesmaid/prom dresses turn up at church rummage sales, often for super-cheap because they're essentially running a flash sale for a few days at most and need to move the merchandise fast, and formal wear for special occasions isn't something most customers are specifically seeking out at those sales.
Indie bridal/formal shops are increasingly rare these days, but if you have one nearby, look for a clearance rack. They may have gowns that were worn in fashion shows, technically making them "used" even if for only an hour or so.
When shopping for a wedding dress years ago, one of the long-time proprietors of a now-defunct indie bridal shop told me that she sold a lot of white prom gowns to her brides, so that's another idea to consider. Best of luck!
