"Best cover songs?"
Okay, so one of my threads spawned a thread about The Beatles...and now that thread is spawning this one. Someone mentioned the Disturbed cover of The Sound of Silence, and everytime I see someone say that I scream inside that the best cover of that song is by Nevermore. 
So that's my first one Nevermore's cover of The Sound of Silence (Simon & Garfunkel)

I recently heard a song by rockers Judas Priest called Diamonds and Rust. I loved it.
Only then did I discover it was a cover. So I listened to the original by an artist called Joan Baez. Wow, what a tune! The cover enabled me to discover the original.
I love music and discovering new (old) tunes.

I think The Byrds version of Dylan's You Ain't Going nowhere is one of my favorites, as well as Linda Rondstat's Blue Bayou, but I feel like Hendrix's All Along The Watchtower has to be close to the top. I mean, Dylan stopped performing it how he wrote it and started doing the Hendrix version after he heard it.

That's a great cover. They kill it when they play it live, I think it sounds better than the studio version.

Ah yes, this is a great one as well! Horse the Band covered March of the Pigs by Nine Inch Nails, I didn't know it was a cover until I was watching an old episode of Beavis and Butthead and saw them watching the music video for it. Felt kind of cheated by Horse the Band after waiting over 10 years for new music and to find out one of the 3 songs they did was a cover haha. They're both pretty similar, but I think the keyboard work is al little better on the cover.

At last! Someone who speaks my language! I love LOVE August Burns Red. I lost count on how many times I've seen them, We Came as Romans, Blessthefall, and others. Just saw Imminence live in Worcester and they were amazing

I've yet to see ABR, but I need to at some point. They certainly hit The Palladium plenty, I've just never made it out there. I was thinking of goin to the Lorna Shore show the other day since I was off, but I waited too long and it was sold out. I'm not much of a concert goer anymore. I used to go frequently, get right down on the floor. These days, I'd probably stand in the back
I don't really like going to concerts by myself though, and everyone has families except for me and none of the people that still talk to me go to concerts like that anyways. I used to have a great concert buddy, but he dropped off the face of the earth. Maybe next year my resolution will be to make an effort to go see some shows...#DontLookUp

Machine Head's "Message in a Bottle" was possibly the most ingenious cover attempt I've seen from a metal band. I honestly didn't think Robb Flynn had the range (nevermind taking on "Hallowed be Thy Name" from Maiden). Keep in mind, I was listening to these guys since they debuted with their Burn my Eyes album. Their Burning Red album was a far cry from "Block" or "Blood for Blood". Lol
Circling back to Metallica, Kill em All had two covers; "Am I Evil" by Diamondhead and "Blitzkrieg" by the band if the same name. Metallica seemed to be one of the few bands in the genre to not really be concerned about doing covers as their entire Garage inc album was primarily just that. My particular faves are still "Stone Cold Crazy" by Queen, "Breadfan" and "So what"

I like the Palladium here but the size of the venue makes it hard to get in close and personal and it's typically standing room only unless you manage VIP/balcony seats.

It's actually how I landed my last session gig which added a decent second revenue stream over this past summer which paid for my new lens and Tilta Nucleus Nano. I am hoping I might get the time to catch Static X and Sevendust coming up. Sevendust is getting up there in age so not sure how many times I will get to see them until they hang it up

Rick Ruben is a fucking legend! I loved every detail he picked up in that recording. Every bit of grit in Johnny's voice to the touch of the strings on the guitar. He made it Cash but it was still easily identifiable by the first chord progression. Of course, Cash freaking nailed it but the naked vocals and minimal backing tracks just enhanced it 1000%

I was inspired to actually go to the pages of Palladium and The Webster (haven't done that forever) to look at some upcoming gigs. I wouldn't mind seeing Gwar with Cancer Bats in March, I could probably swing that since it's on one of my normal days off. Since I'm planning a vacation to go see That 1 Guy for the 10th time (definitely not this style of music, but he puts on a hell of a show) on the same week Veil of Maya and Reflections, I might try to go see that. The other bands at the show I don't know, but I youtubed 'em and Angelmaker seems like they're my cup of tea, the other two bands are so so from the few songs I checked out, but could surprise me, after all that's how I discovered Reflections.
Since I mentioned Cancer Bats, that reminds me, they do a hell of a cover of Sabotage by The Beasty Boys.

I actually finally had the privilege of seeing the master of cover tunes, Richard Cheese, live in a Las Vegas lounge a few months back. He puts on an absolutely amazing show. I laughed so hard I nearly needed stitches.

He is definitely parody. It was a passing joke as there is sometimes an instance where I will hear a song like " Gangsta's Paradise" and instantly Wierd Al comes to mind

HARD agree on the Pantera cover. Damned good one
I'll take The Acacia Strain cover of War Pigs over Black Sabbath. Ozzy kind of has an annoying voice to me, but I know to basically everyone else the screaming vocals in this cover are even worse lol
Really weird one here, but Oceano's cover of War by Edwin Starr... it's just such a different take on the song with the screaming and guitars...people be like "WHAT IN THE F#*@ WAS THAT!?"

To be honest, I fell in love with Dio Sabbath before I took appreciation in Ozzy Sabbath. I pretty much grew up on Ronnie James Dio as I kinda felt he was more our time period of growing up in the 80's. "Heaven and Hell" is still one of those tunes that carry and Dehumanizer is basically doom metal lol

Bloodhound Gang's cover of Along Comes Mary by The Association is so good. The lyrics are great, but the original just does absolutely nothing for me too much clapping, lame guitars, and it just feels so boring...which makes all the more happy for the cover because it's got more of a punch and the lyrics hit harder with that vibe.
