I totally get you. My wife is American and when we decided if we should move in Germany or the US the gun violence was one of the main reason to pick Germany and it even became worse since then. Yep. Kate and I are actively looking for a new country to call home. It isnt worth it living here in fear all the time. I wasted half of today glued to the news today and have lost all motivation to do much of anything (except edit previously recorded messy scenes of course).
First a parade in IL and then in PA where a couple of cops were shot and people had to evacuate in the middle of the fireworks. The only explanation I have is This is America. No amount of protesting will do anything. Politicians love that NRA money too much to do anything.

Move to Munich, Germany! One of the most livable cities in the world with breathtaking nature around it. 3 hrs to Italy by car and it's quite easy to get a work permit / blue card (European green card) as American citizen.

Your government has Apache gunships, cruise missiles, legions of troops, and nuclear warheads. Here in the UK, back in the 80s, a man called Michael Ryan went on a gun rampage round the town of Hungerford in England, using assault-style weapons. They were entirely banned immediately afterwards and there have been no other similar shootings since. Then, in the 90s, a man aremed with handguns killed many children and their teacher at a school in Dunblane in Scotland. Handguns were entirely banned in response. There hasn't been a single school shooting, or handgun rampage, in the UK since. There have been occasional individual shootings, some criminals do still have guns - but the penalties for posession are so severe that only the most dedicated criminals take the risk, and they mostly use them on each other in gang fights, and on the rare occasions any member of the public is caught up, it creates a mass wave of revulsion and even hardened criminals will turn in others who've harmed innocents. The closest thing we've had to a "mass shooting" in the years since Dunblane was someone who drove round part of Cumbria shooting at people with a shotgun from a car. Laws are 1 component to the solution, but access is also another component that needs to be addressed. The land of the free sure doesn't feel free to my family. You started this thread talking about a shooting that happened near where you use too work in Illinois hence why I gave you some suggestions about moving else where. You are correct though it is happening all over the USA. Staying inside and gluing your head into the TV is not going to help you at all though. You should be varying up what sources of main stream media you watch if you only look at one side your missing all the rest of the info. Makes sense that your so spun up about this I would be too if i was glued to the main stream propaganda networks, news flash they care only about ratings not about telling the truth. Mhop you talk about doing your own research. Are you referring to the way that tobacco companies do their research against vaping? Or is it research like finding out who is writing bills for congress to pass. How much does it cost to get in the pocket of a congressman?
Most people do not know how to do their own research. There are also a good deal of people too lazy to do their research. For example, they would take the study paid for by tobacco companies under another name as fact against vaping. They would not look further into the study to find it was funded by the competition of vaping. Most people don't know that news articles are not a good source about a topic. Because those people do not think the news does wrong. They do not think that political leaning statements just happen to show up on the news that night. They do not know in hundreds of markets the same message was reported on their news too.
