I am so God damn sick of these mass shootings. This country is the fucking wild wild west and no politicians have the guts to rip out the 2nd ammendment for the rest (majority) of the population. My family are becoming increasingly prisoners in our own home because we refuse to go into any of these potential mass shooting situations. Thats right - we dont even go into the grocery stores anymore. We arent going to our fireworks display because the location is a perfect corral for a mass shooting. Why the fuck do i have to think like im back in the military to avoid being ambushed!? Back during the war on terror we would always tell people who felt like not participating in public events that the terrorists won. Today i say that the terrorsts within this country have won and those terrorists are enabled by the lack of action from our political leaders. It makes me sick and disenfranchised in the entire country. Please boycott all American made products. Todays mass shooting was in Highland Park, IL and was 2 blocks away from a location I ised to work at. Absolutely disgusted.
I totally get you. My wife is American and when we decided if we should move in Germany or the US the gun violence was one of the main reason to pick Germany and it even became worse since then. The much I love the US, and loved living there, the unlikely it is that we will live there atm - thanks to the wacko people and the corrupted political system. It really hurts to see this decline.

Yep. Kate and I are actively looking for a new country to call home. It isnt worth it living here in fear all the time. I wasted half of today glued to the news today and have lost all motivation to do much of anything (except edit previously recorded messy scenes of course).
First a parade in IL and then in PA where a couple of cops were shot and people had to evacuate in the middle of the fireworks. The only explanation I have is This is America. No amount of protesting will do anything. Politicians love that NRA money too much to do anything.

Move to Munich, Germany! One of the most livable cities in the world with breathtaking nature around it. 3 hrs to Italy by car and it's quite easy to get a work permit / blue card (European green card) as American citizen.
It's really, cruely pathetic that apparently the NRA and the politicians they bought count innocent children as people who have died to "protect our freedoms". End the availability of weapons of war to the public.

The 2nd amendment needs to be ripped up and binned. It was added in the late 18th century during the war of independence, and when firearms were flintlock muskets, and it may have been appropriate for a new country establishing itself.

Here in the UK, back in the 80s, a man called Michael Ryan went on a gun rampage round the town of Hungerford in England, using assault-style weapons. They were entirely banned immediately afterwards and there have been no other similar shootings since. Then, in the 90s, a man aremed with handguns killed many children and their teacher at a school in Dunblane in Scotland. Handguns were entirely banned in response. There hasn't been a single school shooting, or handgun rampage, in the UK since. There have been occasional individual shootings, some criminals do still have guns - but the penalties for posession are so severe that only the most dedicated criminals take the risk, and they mostly use them on each other in gang fights, and on the rare occasions any member of the public is caught up, it creates a mass wave of revulsion and even hardened criminals will turn in others who've harmed innocents. The closest thing we've had to a "mass shooting" in the years since Dunblane was someone who drove round part of Cumbria shooting at people with a shotgun from a car. Farmers are allowed to have shotguns and no-one has suggested changing that, just tightening up the safety checks that have to be done first.
And as to overturning tyrany, the people of the countries of Eastern Europe who rose up and overthrew the tyrany of Soviet communism weren't armed and didn't do so with weapons, they did so with mass solidarity.

Laws are 1 component to the solution, but access is also another component that needs to be addressed. The land of the free sure doesn't feel free to my family. We don't feel safe doing just about anything in public anymore. Why? So that others can enjoy their right to carry weapons? That simply isn't a fair trade off at all.

My first thoughts would be to perhaps too get the fuck out of Chicago for starters , If you feel the area is not safe why stay and be scared all the time. Firearms are already heavily regulated with back ground checks and waiting periods and tax stamps adding more will Not decrease the amount of crime. As I said before Criminals DO NOT care about laws. From the outside it seems like any old JO Shmo can walk down the the corner store and buy a gun and walk out but that's is Far from the truth. I depends HEAVILY on the state you live in. Also If you feel the USA is no longer a safe place for your family then by all means renounce your citizenship and leave no one is keeping you here. IF YOU DO don't then think you have the right to vote to change anything. I hope your, at the very least active in your community working with law enforcement to help make your area a safer place If not then I got nothing for you. YOU HAVE OPTIONS , you are just refusing too look at the real problem here. Do you blame the car when someone is run over?? Or the booze when someone is killed drunk driving , the answer is NO it falls on the person who was driving. WHY then do you insist on more gun laws?? News flash. This is not a chicago problem. Uvalde, TX is pretty far away from chicago. Sandy Hook, Parkland, las Vegas, etc. This is not just a chicago problem that you think is caused by gun laws here. Common conservative conspiracy theory line though. Yep. Kate and I are actively looking for a new country to call home. It isnt worth it living here in fear all the time. I wasted half of today glued to the news today and have lost all motivation to do much of anything (except edit previously recorded messy scenes of course).

You started this thread talking about a shooting that happened near where you use too work in Illinois hence why I gave you some suggestions about moving else where. You are correct though it is happening all over the USA. Staying inside and gluing your head into the TV is not going to help you at all though. You should be varying up what sources of main stream media you watch if you only look at one side your missing all the rest of the info. Makes sense that your so spun up about this I would be too if i was glued to the main stream propaganda networks, news flash they care only about ratings not about telling the truth. They deal in half truths and misrepresented half facts and most of them flat out tell lies. I encourage you to do your OWN research come too your OWN conclusions not just spit back what the main stream media tells you. There is always more too a story than what they say. Take what they say with a grain of salt. I do agree with you on one point there needs to be more investigation into how these individuals are getting these weapons. Not more laws restricting firearms cause clearly they are not working. There needs to be a balance more laws do nothing to stop the criminal. Come too your own conclusions , Do your own research and if you still arrive at the conclusion that all is hopeless in the USA then move to another country. Mhop you talk about doing your own research. Are you referring to the way that tobacco companies do their research against vaping? Or is it research like finding out who is writing bills for congress to pass. How much does it cost to get in the pocket of a congressman?

For example, they would take the study paid for by tobacco companies under another name as fact against vaping. They would not look further into the study to find it was funded by the competition of vaping. Most people don't know that news articles are not a good source about a topic. Because those people do not think the news does wrong. They do not think that political leaning statements just happen to show up on the news that night. They do not know in hundreds of markets the same message was reported on their news too.
