So I found a Chippendales facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/pages/Original-Chippendales/547381761997262 ) and it looks like the former emcee of Chippendales, who many have seen in CHiPs or Sheriff Lobo, posted a few photos of some mud wrestling from back in the early 80s. Does anyone recognize some of these? I recognize a few of them.
Wow, these are cool. Surprised I never stumbled across them myself. I went into the photo albums on Barsh's FB pages and fished out some caption info.
The first photo is from LOBO, with Amy Botwinick (left) and Tara Buckman, regulars on the show, in the ring. Awesome scene (it's usually on Youtube), maybe the best (certainly the longest) from a prime-time show in the 80s.
Second and fifth photos look like snapshots of matches that weren't filmed, tragically.
Third and fourth photos are from my pre-Kathie Lee morning show with Cindy Garvey (1978-81, probably toward the end of that range). It's a lost scene, as far as I know -- one of the few from that era that has been identified but doesn't circulate among collectors. The wrestler on the left in the clean photo is Sandy "Magic" Fries, seen in this match from one of the Las Vegas tournaments, but maybe I'm just being fooled by the haircut. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fo-SwgLYuiY
Last photo is John Schneider on THE MIKE DOUGLAS SHOW. I think this scene was on a Wamtec cliptape, but I haven't come across it in my own archives in a while. Will have to check.
Of the three I added below, the one in the middle is from THE MERV GRIFFIN SHOW. Pretty long, sexy match for a talk show. It's around thanks to Wamtec, too.
I thought that was Reege and Cyndy Garvey when I saw that last night, and it had to be "AM Los Angeles," not "AM New York."
Mike and Merv actually made sense to have that act: Westinghouse moved the "Mike Douglas Show" to Television City, and Merv moved his show to Vegas when he went to the old Metromedia. Both needed guests, you say?
