The oil floats on top of the liquid covering the eye, so a few blinks clears it away. Just don't do it with contacts lenses in - it gets in the little pores and turns them cloudy.
I always liked this handful of pics from Michael Nicoletti, though I worry about her slipping and falling. Speaking from personal experience, that metallic oil is seriously slippery.
