News Anchor Takes a Muddy TumbleStory by jono12Posted 9/27/24 466 views
Sara was one of the lead news anchors for Channel Two News. She had recently been promoted after spending a few years at the station as a field reporter. During that time, she was the first one sent out on location when there was a breaking news story. Now, her work resided in the cozy Channel Two studio, but with serious mudslides hitting the area, Sara was sent back out on the scene all day to cover the developments as they unfolded. Normally known for her fashion sense, a day spent in nature's elements required a more modest outfit: black leggings, gray hunter boots, a denim blue button-down with the first few buttons left undone, and her long silky brown hair tied up in a high ponytail.
The day started off normally. Sara visited several locations around the city, reporting on the situation. The mudslides had ravaged much of the area, leaving the streets covered in thick mud and damaging cars and even some buildings.
Getting around the city on that day, with mud-covered streets, was not easy, and it took a toll on Sara. She thought her time as a field reporter was over and believed she was above having to trek through mud all day while her co-anchors sat back in the studio. She constantly complained to the crew members for not moving fast enough. At one point, she lashed out at one of them: "If I spend a second more than I have to today running around in mud because of you, you won't be at this channel for much longer."
Though tense, the day continued. Sara powered through and was all set to do her last report. Reporting from one of the city's main roads, Sara noticed a large mud pile lining the street. She wanted her final report to capture the pile, showing the viewers just how disastrous the effects were. With everything set, Sara began her report.
"Thank you, Olivia. I'm currently standing on County Route 50, and you can see just how bad the damage is here. Normally, this road would be filled with commuting cars at this time of day, but instead, it's covered in a layer of thick mud." Sara took a few steps forward. "Take a look here," she said as she stepped into the mud. "You can see how thick and gooey it is. It's gotta be at least a couple of feet deep." The camera panned toward her boots. "I'm actually struggling to lift my boot out right now. It's sludge." She let out a slight nervous laugh, concerned she might get stuck, but after a few wiggles, she managed to pull her boot free.
Next, Sara turned her attention to the mud pile that lined the side of the road. "You can see here that the mud has accumulated even more on the side of the road." Sara hadn't originally planned to climb it, but she decided to walk on top since it looked somewhat dry and sturdier than the mud on the street. "Take a look at how tall this pile is. It must be at least four feet off the ground right now. This is the worst effect we've ever seen from mudslides in this city."
Sara was ready to end her report and send it back to the studio. As she began to say her goodbyes while stepping down, multitasking clearly turned out to be a bad decision. "That's it for me here. Back to y--" Before she could finish, she lost her balance. She waved her arms, trying to regain her footing, but there was no stopping her fall. Everyone watching heard a loud plop as Sara fell face-first into the mud-covered street. She lay sprawled out like an angel, her body pressed down flat in the mud. For a few seconds, Sara just lay there, perhaps hoping what had just happened wasn't real. Unfortunately, it was. She could hear the camera crew whispering urgently to the producers, "Cut! Cut!"
Hearing that, Sara lifted her face out of the mud and confronted reality. She looked up nervously, her face drenched in a thick layer of muck. Her hair and outfit were also a complete mess. "Are we off?" she asked, her voice muffled by the mud in her mouth. She spat it out right after asking. The crew exchanged worried glances, knowing technical issues in the studio prevented them from cutting away. Realizing what this meant, Sara's mouth dropped open in shock as she let out an "ugh!" With nowhere to hide, she let her face drop back into the mud. Finally, the shot cut, returning to the studio.
After the shot cut, Sara finally picked herself up. Not a single inch of her body was free of mud. Her face was completely smeared with the brown goo, and her once-neat ponytail was now a tangled mess. Her outfit was utterly destroyed, with mud seeping through her clothes and the wetness clinging to her skin. Some mud had even made its way into her boots.
Still unprepared to face reality, Sara yelled at the crew, "This is all your fault!" The crew had to stifle their laughter, finding her appearance amusing, especially after her earlier complaints. She retorted, "The entire city just saw me get covered in mud on live television, and you're laughing?" She criticized them for not warning her about walking on the mud pile, even though she knew it had been her own decision to make that risky move. As tensions eased, Sara was handed a poncho and driven back to the studio with the rest of the crew.
The video gained traction on social media over the following days, with many users laughing at the humiliating incident. A few days later, when Sara returned to the anchor desk, her co-hosts poked fun at her infamous fall. Sara could only hide behind an embarrassed smile, knowing that arguing would only make matters worse.
