Don't Mess Around With Me: The Four Seasons

After the break, the camera returned to Marcus centre stage, his bright, sparkly suit perfectly intact.

"WELCOME BACK TO DON'T MESS AROUND WITH ME!" The audience cheered, awaiting what was about to happen. They all knew that any one of them could be randomly selected to take part in the next game, and whilst most didn't want to be up on stage, they all enjoyed watching two hunks get thrashed with messy things a few minutes before. "Before the break, we saw Christian lose to Oscar in the Six Degrees of Devastation. But that won't be the last we see of Christian...oh no! He'll be back at the end of the show to play the loser of our next game."

The crowd, without a prompt this time, made a loud "oooh" sound. They hadn't entertained the prospect of being gunged twice in one night.

A screen once again lowered behind Marcus. "But before that, we need to play our next game! And for that, we are going to need four contestants. Let's spin that slot machine to see who we've got coming up."

The screen started whirling through everyone's name, and the audience started to get more and more into the show, screaming and cheering as their names appeared. It started to slow down.

"And it's landing on...JOEY!"

Joey sank his face into his hands as his mates started hitting their hands against his back. They all found it hilarious, but Joey at this moment realised that he was not going to leave this studio clean. He slowly got up and jogged down to the stage, his skinny jeans showing off his assets.

"That's one contestant, but we need three more. Spin that wheel again!"

The slot machine went round another time, but slowed down much quicker, which caused the tension in the audience to mount considerably.

"Our second contestant is...DAN!"

Dan laughed and shook his head. His girlfriend, Becky, was sat next to him and began pointing and laughing. He sauntered down to the stage and gave a few shy waves to the cameras as he walked past.

"Our next contestant please!" The slot machine did its magic once again, sprinting past all the names of the audience. It began to hover over two, before settling it. "It's Robbie!"

Initially, Robbie looked clueless, as if he hadn't heard his name. But he heard it alright, and after a stern look from one of the stage managers (whose job it was to remember the name of every audience member and what they looked like), he got up and jogged down to the stage.

"One last spot in this game. I know none of you wants it, but it's going to be one of you. Let's see who it will be!" This time, the audience clapped as the slot machine went through the names, keeping in time as it slowed down to the final, unlucky (or lucky, depending on what you think) soul. "The final spot goes to...Lewis!"

Lewis fist-pumped as he realised he'd get to be on telly. He didn't care that he'd be getting messy, and he sprinted down to the stage, high-fiving everyone as he went by.

Marcus laughed as Lewis arrived on stage. "Alright, we've got a keen bean. So let's briefly meet our contestants. We'll start with you Joey, how old are you, where are you from, and what do you do for a living?"

"I'm Joey," he said sweetly, "I'm 20, I'm from Birmingham and I'm a barman!" This got some cheers from the audience, although mainly from his mates, who had only just composed themselves after realising their friend was going to be humiliated on TV. His white t-shirt started to show a little dampness under the armpits as he started sweating.

Marcus asked Dan the same questions. "I'm 31, I'm from Newcastle and I'm a taxi driver." Dan didn't have quite as fit a physique as Joey, but he was still a good looking man, with his hair standing neatly as a quiff.

"I'm Robbie, I'm 25, I'm from Cardiff and I'm a computer games developer." Robbie's Clark Kent-style glasses lent him a sweetness that made him hard to dislike, despite his earlier attempt to pretend this wasn't happening. He was also the most smartly dressed of the boys, wearing a very nice white shirt and navy trousers. He looked concerned that they were going to get very messy.

"And finally, you at the end, why don't you introduce yourself?"

"Well, I'm Lewis, I'm 27, I'm from Guildford and I work for a marketing agency." This helped make sense of Lewis' confidence as if he was already selling himself as a brand. His chest was slightly puffed out, his dark buzz cut perfectly suiting his body and black t-shirt and jeans. He was here to get his name out there.

"Alright, so we have our four boys! What are the chances of that?" Marcus winked at the camera.

"I'm going to put you out of your misery and tell you what game you'll be playing. It's called...The Four Seasons!" Once again, the audience cheered as part of the set gave way to a massive, inflatable obstacle course with four distinct sections. Marcus wandered over to the start of it. "Lads, you'll be taking a trip through the year on this obstacle course. Starting in spring, you'll sprint along this bouncy, flat section here. But you might want to watch out for some showers." The audience ooohed as Marcus continued. "Then, you'll want to have a dip in the summertime so you can wade across our special pool here." The cameras cut to an angle showing a knee-deep green slime pool, that still had a few bubbles on the surface. "Next, it's autumn, and you'll have to fall down on your tummies as you bellycrawl underneath this netting." The lads looked at each other...there was nothing messy about that? What could possibly be challenging? "Finally, you'll climb a cold mountain in winter, where you'll need all your strength to climb up the rope to the top of the mountain before sliding down the other side."

"But boys," Marcus said, "you didn't think it would be that simple." The boys tilted their heads back in annoyance. "From one side to the other, you'll need to carry small water balloons. And you won't be carrying them in your hands. And we don't want what you're wearing to get trashed, we're not horrible. So we're going to give you some nice lycra singlets to wear."

Dan and Robbie's jaw dropped. They'd be dressed in what! Joey just laughed at himself whilst Lewis felt quite excited to be able to show off more of his body.

"You'll all start with 10 in your singlet, but if any burst, that will be a 5 second time penalty at the end for each one. The person with the fastest time overall wins, and as for the person with the slowest...they'll be facing Christian in our final game...as well as maybe one extra treat."

The lads eyed each other up. Whilst they all guessed they'd be getting messy, they did not want to have to go through this again.

During a quick advertisement break, the boys were taken to a changing room backstage. All too quickly for them, they were behind the set's curtain. "Let's welcome back our four boys!" Once Marcus shouted that they were prompted to walk onto set, wearing nothing but a singlet, each of them in a different colour to attach them to different colour water balloon: Joey was in red, Dan was in white, Robbie was in yellow and Lewis was in purple.

They lined up at the start of the obstacle course. Behind each of them was a barrel of water balloons that matched their singlet. "Ok boys, it's time to load up your singlets!" The audience cheered as the boys delicately placed their water balloons into their singlets. Joey let out a little gasp as the coldness from the water touched his privates, whilst Dan was jumping up and down to get warm again.

"COUNTING DOWN FROM 3. 3....2....1...GO!"

All the boys dashed off, heading to the flat inflatable. Lewis got into a good lead but bounced and fell to the floor. He quickly checked to see if any balloons had burst yet, but thankfully they were all still intact. Robbie and Joey went past him, carefully hopping across, but soon they discovered what Marcus meant by "showers". Blue gunge rained down on them as they ran. Joey slipped, landing on his arse and popping two balloons he had stored there. He swore under his breath, but got up and gently clasped at his remaining balloons as he tried to not burst anymore.

Despite dripping blue, Robbie managed to avoid falling over, so he was now the leader and in first place. Meanwhile, at the rear, Dan was desperately trying to avoid the slime, but he slipped on some of the blue gunge on the inflatable and landed on his front. He didn't know how many, he was splashed from within his singlet by the cold water balloons bursting. He gasped, but then had a bright idea. He decided he would crawl across instead of walk. This way, he wouldn't get too much gungier and if any more did drop on him, it would just hit his back. By doing this, he managed to catch up with Lewis.

Further ahead and coated in blue gunge, Joey was crouching down to enter the green pool. Robbie was halfway across the pool when he suddenly lost his balance and fell all the way in. Green gunge seeped into his singlet and burst a few balloons. When he managed to stand up, not only did he look like a green slime creature, but his singlet was bulging. He was also now losing precious time as the other three boys were in the pool too.

Lewis was discovering that the pool was his time to shine as he carefully and successfully managed to wade across quickly and put himself in first place. Joey and Dan weren't finding it as easy. Almost immediately, Dan slipped and sank into the pool, popping a few balloons on his way down. Joey was as unstable as a baby lamb taking their first steps, hobbling across the pool, splashing himself with green gunge as he went along. In the end, Joey had given up being able to walk across, lowered himself gently in and began swimming as best he could. What he would never let his mates know is that he was loving the sensation of gunge on his body, and whilst he wanted to win the race, he would've liked to stay in the pool for as long as possible.

Lewis had clambered out of the pool and ducked underneath the netting, and this was when he discovered why this section was autumn...the floor has been coated in pumpkin soup, and there was no option other than to lie very flat along the floor to be able to get through. He carefully lowered himself down, trying to pop any balloons and dragged himself by his biceps to the other end of the netting, coating his purple singlet in an orange film.

Robbie wasn't far behind him and he was crawling through the pumpkin soup on his forearms without breaking any of the balloons. Twenty seconds behind him, Joey and Dan were neck and neck: Dan exercised the same level of caution as Robbie by staying on his forearms, whilst Joey immediately slipped on the soup and splatted himself against the ground, breaking all his balloons. The disappointment was worn on his face, as he realised he would still have to complete the course and he'd be getting a massive time penalty. But having no balloons meant he could speed up and catch up with Lewis. He used all his energy to sprint underneath the netting and when he stood up, the mixture of cold water and pumpkin soup left little to the imagination of the audience, some of whom started wolf-whistling at what they could see.

Now, Joey and Lewis had to contend with the inflatable mountain in front of them. Small ledges were on the slope, and so they both tried to climb up but immediately slipped. This was because not only were they covered in gunge and soup by this point, but the small little blasters spurting white gunge sprayed at them any time they made an attempt. Robbie at this point had caught up, and made a similar attempt, but fell down on his arse, bursting a few more balloons. He then realised the decision he had to make: he would have to hold his body against the inflatable mountain and risk a few balloons popping but then he'd be able to finish first. So he got, hopped onto a ledge and a spray of white gunge hit him square on in the face. He held on and felt another balloon burst. At this point, he hoisted himself up, keeping his body close to the mountain and showing his pert bum. He reached the top of the mountain and then could see he had to slide down the other side into an icy gunge bath. He did so and screamed as he hit the cold white slime at the other end.

Joey noticed that what Robbie had done was successful, and with no more balloons to lose, he kept too clambered his way up in the same way and slid down into the cold gunge. By now, Dan had caught up with Lewis, who had lost his impressive lead. Both lads were still bulging with balloons and knew they had to speed up if they didn't want to face the final game. Eventually, Dan managed to get a good grip, but the power from one of the blasters burst one of his balloons. He climbed up to the top and was one ledge away from the summit when he missed his footing and slipped all the way back down, bursting a few balloons. Lewis saw this as his chance and dug his fingernails into the inflatable ledges to help keep him gripped on and he slowly made his way to the top. He readjusted his final balloons to make sure none burst as he slid down the other side. Not long after, and once the supplies of gunge for the blasters had run out, Dan managed to also climb up and slide down into the cold gunge. A klaxon sounded and the four lads stood, covered in white, blue and green slime, some with very bulging singlets (and that wasn't just from the balloons and gunge) and they all smelt a little like a pumpkin.

They stood by the side of the obstacle course and Marcus reappeared, this time wearing a see-through poncho. "Well, you don't expect to see me get messy do you?!" The four boys groaned as they were dripping in gunge. "Alright, we will start with the person who crossed the finish line last, so that's you, Dan." Dan stepped forward, and Marcus laughed at him. "Well that wasn't your finest moment was it, Dan?"

"I guess not" Dan replied. He wasn't feeling confident about coming last place now.

"Well, I can tell you that you finished the course in a time of...3 minutes and 16 seconds. Not too bad. But now we have to see how many balloons you have left." At this point, Marcus opened up Dan's singlet, to the delight of the audience, and reached in to grab two balloons. "You've got seven balloons left Dan, which means you lost 5 and that's a 35 second time penalty. Your final time is 3:51." The audience applauded, but Dan shook his head. He thought his place in the final game was cemented. "Oh, and we're not going to let these balloons go to waste" Marcus shouted before smashing them on Dan's head, whose mouth gasped open as the cold water travelled down his back.

"Okay, Lewis, you finished third." Lewis stepped up. "Lewis, you weren't the quickest but you didn't lose too many balloons."

"No, I didn't, my tactic was to take my time and not have any time penalties."

"Well, I can tell you that you finished in a time of...3 minutes and 9 seconds. So let's see if that's going to change with any time penalties." As Lewis had noticeably more balloons than Dan, Marcus decided to count them out as he popped them on Lewis' head. Lewis didn't mind though as he thought the water dripping down his face would make him look hotter.

"7...8...9 balloons! You only popped one, which means a small penalty of 5 seconds and your final time is 3:14!"

Joey was up next. "Joey...you completed the course in a time of...3 minutes and 2 seconds." Joey cheered and his mates in the audience hollered. At this point, Marcus looked down at Joey's singlet. "Joey, I don't want to assume, but I can't see any balloons in there."

"I slipped on the pumpkin soup didn't I and landed on all the balloons. I hope I've done enough."

"Well, there are no balloons bulging through the singlet but something else definitely is" Marcus teased. Joey giggled and tried to cover up his crotch which was now the focal point of each camera. "So Joey, you have the maximum penalty of fifty seconds, which brings your time to...3:52. ONE SECOND SLOWER THAN DAN'S!" Dan at this point jumped with joy whilst Joey's face sunk into his hands. There was no way of him not coming last now, as Robbie finished faster than him and he could still see a few balloons.

"Joey, I think you know what's coming next so stay right there for me. Robbie, come and join me and let's find out well you did." Robbie was smiling...he had been the most nervous to take part, but he enjoyed himself and wasn't going to be humiliated twice over today. "Robbie, your time was...2 minutes 50 seconds. But let's see how many balloons survived." Marcus dived into Robbie's singlet with his poncho sleeve and had a good feel around before smashing two balloons on Robbie's head.

"Two survived, so that's a 40-second penalty. Your final time is 3:30, which means you come second. Lewis is our winner, Dan is third but Joey...oh Joey...I think you can guess what's coming next."

Joey's friends in the audience were now going crazy. Their best mate was about to be messed up further and have to do it all again once he had gotten changed.

A stagehand brought a chair out and Joey was told to sit on it. Foolishly, he started to try and wipe the gunge off of his face. "I wouldn't bother doing that Joey," Marcus said. "You lost 10 balloons on your way to the finish line, so I think you should have 10 of something else." A trolley was then wheeled out, lined up with pies. "Yes, Joey...you're about to be pied 10 times!" Joey laughed. He had always secretly wanted to be pied, and these were big ones, loaded with cream and custard.

The three other boys as well as Marcus took a pie in each hand and gathered around him. Marcus stood right behind him and lined his pies on either side of Joey's head. "Alright lads, in 3, 2, 1, PIE HIM!" Marcus completed the pie sandwich as cream flew out in every direction. Dan aimed straight for Joey's emboldened crotch, whilst Lewis was rubbing pie into Joey's chest. A few moments ago, Joey was soaked in multi-coloured gunge and had streaks of pumpkin soup down him. Now, he was a creamy and custard pile of mess, but his smile still shone through. Marcus handed Lewis the final two pies.

"Lewis, as our winner, I will give you the honour of delivering his final two pies, but before that, I want to remind you Joey as well as the audience at home that when we come back from the break, Joey will take on Christian in our final game. And if you thought they had got messy already, you have no idea what's about to come." The audience laughed and cheered, knowing that the final part of the show was going to be the most exciting.

"But before that...Lewis, pie our loser!"

Lewis then hurled the two pies at Joey's face, coating him once again. Joey then waved to the camera as the set he was sat on was pulled behind a curtain, and he needed to have a shower before his final game.
