Mess Ritual
A UMD Store
a home for eco-sploshing: an experimental practice that engages sploshing as a tool for building relationships with our environment, our bodies & Mother Earth. The practice centers around slowing down, listening deeply & getting comfortable with the unknown.

eco-sploshing asks: how can my sploshing eco-system support the eco-system in which I live? where can I source waste in my local community ~ to splosh in & to build with? how can I deal with my own waste in regenerative ways?

let's get dirty.

bringing my compost pile to life with a splosh--I cover myself in raw eggs, raspberries, tea leaves and dirt--food that was headed for the compost pile and intercepted for my pleasure instead my roommates brought me eggs that weren't quite good enough to eat, but good enough to put all over my body. little did they know I'd secretly be sploshing in them in our backyard. the raspberries were close to molding. the tea leaves were saved from my daily cup. taking my time--I settle back in to my first mess in a long time--massaging raspberries on my belly and connecting with my core--my giver of breath--my giver of life. planting myself into the dirt, I embrace the mud that is formed on top of me. the slimy eggs slide into my bra and my shorts. I giggle as I experiment with cracking eggs with and on my body. I pour a bowl full of raw egg over my head and shampoo the eggs and shells into my hair, reveling in the sounds and textures I'm immersed in. the birds fly and chirp above. the fresh air grazes my skin. I am alive and I accept death. a devotion to compost. as I develop the practice of eco-sploshing, I find waste to splosh in and consider the ways that my sploshing eco-system can support the eco-system in which I live. I hope to give new life to that which has already been discarded, instead of producing new waste. hello compost pile!
