This is the sploshing off season for us due to weather, but we went on a multi-store, multi-state thrifting adventure for possible new sploshing outfits Here are some highlights of what we found. Some of these dresses (including one of the wedding dresses) were 99 cents! We did get a bit carried away with the 99 cent shoes... Our favorite find is the fancy purple formal gown. It wasn't 99 cents, but we certainly got it far cheaper than what it would have sold for new! Same is true for the princess style wedding gown that still has the original tag on it We also found one of those old school desk/chair combo things for cheap. May use it for some kind of school sliming skit. The 2 cheerleader outfits at the end were not from this adventure. We had previously gotten the skirts cheap, but had to splurge on new tops to match them.

WOW I have no words for just how awesome what you scored is! I can't even close a favorite here, everything is so perfect. The two of you are going to have the best time with everything!

Yeah, that is amazing. Hope didn't you tell me you once got a wedding gown very cheap, too.

This is awesome! My wife and I just did the same thing a few weeks ago didn't have as big of a score as you guys though and I wish we could get 99 cent shoes.

Nice haul! Most of the outfits our people wear came from charity shops, they're a significant part of most UK high streets and while the days of things for 99p are long over, you still get some absolute bargains, skirts that were £79 new and have hardly been worn, for £8.99. We've amassed an enormous collection over the last 17 years.

At first I assumed clothes would be knackered by being messed, but in fact we've found it's shoes and boots that fall apart after a few goes through the washing machine, clothes, including "dry clean only" stuff like wedding dresses, come up like new after a couple of washes.

That's surprised me as well. I've started wearing more of my own wardrobe rather than one specifically to get messy in because everything so far has come out in the wash. I'll still reserve new substances for something that doesn't matter if it gets harmed, but the one problem I've ever ran into was with fabrics that shrink when wet such as rayon. There was that and the other may have been some form of acetate that I can't recall at the moment. Shoes have been the only other real problem when they get thoroughly soaked during cleaning even though I do it by hand, or during attempts at wet videos. Payless brand seem to handle getting soaked better than most.

Dungeon Master One and Hope: I am always amazed at the resilience of women's formal wear! I spill a bit of mustard on my t-shirt and it is ruined forever; we totally trash a satin formal gown in all kinds of mess and it washes clean . And I totally agree with DM1, Dry Clean Only is a myth. I have had many items with that label (including my good men's suits) that did just fine in a regular washing machine. The only caveat I would add is that sometimes the dye from the clothes can run so I would not wash them for the first time with anything else you care about

Haven't had a chance to edit it yet, but we actually did a thing this summer where we saw how many times we could mess the same outfit. The answer was 7 (3 wet and 4 messy). And we did not do it in the logical order of doing all the wet stuff first and then get it messy. The oil in the savoury mess did permanently change the color of the dress, but it was the mud that finally killed the outfit; the shoes fell apart. Speaking of shoes, we have 2 different styles of shoe driers that can help prolong their useful life, I'll put pics below. Excuse the mess in the background but we live here...

Now on the opposite end of the spectrum, that yellow cheerleader outfit in this post was a complete outfit when we got it. The lettering on the top did not survive a sploshing, hence the need to find a new top to match it.

In addition to using thrift stores as we did when I produced, we were able to go one or two sizes large then use safety pins in the back to make the front look right. Worked every time we did that.
