What is an aspect you are looking for in a video that you never see any producer (or model) get juuuuust right? There is always something missing.

The slime is never the right consistency. While cake batter slime is easy to make, and makes a nice slime, it's not my preferred slime. And the european style gunge does have it's uses, when I see that slime, I think "aliens". If I had unlimited funds, sets, and actors, I would probably use european style gunge for alien slime.

The arms and bucket are always visible. I really like when the slime comes from nowhere, like it an act of nature.

Oh, this just gives me a great idea for a video I can never make! An alien and an earthling meet. They both live in a universe where one can get slimed, and whenever the alien it around someone, they get slimed in alien slime, which is triggered by a word or phrase which, in their alien language means I don't know, but in English, it could be a rather common word or phrase.

You know how if you see a guy pieing another guy, it's usually with reckless abandon? I've yet to find a producer or combination of models be able to pull that off in a girl-girl scene. I get that part of it is guys have bigger hands and thus can hold the tin in their hand better to get force behind it, but it's even beyond that - it's the....what's the best word.........maybe aggressiveness........about it that seems like a WAM white whale when it comes to girl-girl scenes.

Agreed, and even when you instruct models to hit hard, they're usually far more gentle about it that you need.
I've had it happen a few times tho... The 3-girl scene from SS58 was the definition of "reckless abandon," and it's a ton of fun even if not all the hits land exactly.

Beyond that, a lot of the Shelly two-girl clips have very aggressive hits. Mainly SS133, 134, and 138. I always wondered why they didn't sell better. (Beyond, ya know, Shelly...)

We've done a handful of slingshot scenes, but there's far more lingerie clips in my library. (For that matter, there's quite a few playful PG and PG-13 co-ed scenes too.)

But that said, the three best selling scenes I've had in the HD era have been two slingshots and Kylie's topless one, so the market clearly has other ideas.

Guess for me it's not really the models per se, but the style... all the locked down / tripod shots, or the stand in front of the camera, I mess you / you mess me shots, etc.

I fully realize that a lot of scenes are shot by individuals, or a few people...all of whom may be in the shot itself, so a lot of this is out of necessity. This is more of an observation vs a 'gripe'! But I really love it when the camera pans over the girls body, zooms in/out and really captures all the oozing, dripping, glistening mess... especially with a little incident high lighting and possibly even in slow-mo! Though this obviously requires an additional person to run the camera and I could see how it would be doubly difficult in a deep mud pit ... though my hand is always raised to volunteer!

...and of course anything with wrestling, slipping, sliding, bodies rolling around, etc is way more interesting to me than just the "stand in front of the camera slapping mess on each other" shots.

There are lots of things people get wrong, and anyone who's ever produced a wam video will know how tricky it is to get everything right, but there is one thing that utterly destroys a scene: Bad camera work. There are several screaming howlers which crop up:

1. Zooming in. Some people appear to be obsessed with their camera's zoom function and instead of setting up a nice steady shot, they keep zooming in (sometimes to a ridiculous degree) and missing half the money shots as a result. There is a time and place for zooming and panning, once the model is completely covered, to show off all the glistening detail in glorious close-up. But when the gunge is happening, the camera should be steady and show the whole scene, either knees to head or feet to head, so we, the audience, can just enjoy the view as the model gets messed up. Watch a few feature films - notice that the camera almost never zooms while a scene is rolling. Zoom lenses are meant for setting up the framing of a scene before its shot, not using while shooting.

2. Shaking cameras. This is sometimes a subset of zooming, especially in outdoor scenes where the camera operator doesn't want to get their feet wet or muddy and tries to film from the bank. WRONG!!! As Rob Blaine said more than 20 years ago, it is impossible to shoot good mud scenes unless you're willing to go right into the mud with your models and shoot from just a few feet away, and I'd say that applies to wetlook too. When a camera is zoomed in, the tiniest motion of the camera is massively amplified - the scene ends up gyrating about like a small boat in a force ten storm. Go in close and shoot in wide angle. Having said that I've also seen a scene where despite being zoomed out, the camera continuously gyrates about, rendering what's otherwise a good scene, pretty much unwatchable. Basically, cameras should not shake.

3. Just general bad camera angles, especially these four:

3.1. Completely missing the point. I once saw a scene advertised as a jeans scene. Yet at one point where a model is lowering herself into a tank of gunge, the actual point of contact at which her shoes and jeans are going into the surface of the gunge is out of view below the bottom of the frame. Someone was shooting a jeans scene and yet decided, at the actual point where the model's jeans were going into the goo - the actual money shot moment - that it was more important to film her head and upper body. I can only assume that was a hired-in camera operator who didn't understand the genre.

3.2. Backlit scenes. This has been mentioned a few times over the years, and is a perennial problem, especially in beach wetlook scenes, that is as old as WAM - there are classic photosets from the 90s that have this issue. Part of the problem is our eyes can see a much wider dynamic range than a camera can. Generally if looking as a human viewer, even if the scene is backlit your eyes will still pick out details of the models' outfits as they get wet. But the camera, with its lesser dynamic range, will only see a silhouette, all detail lost. The trick is for the camera operator to wade out beyond the models (or at least beside) and make sure it's their sunlit side that is facing the camera, so the detail is captured. Even when it's cloudy, one side will be better lit than the other, and that's the side to film.

3.3. I've seen several scenes where a model is going to sit down in mess or water, be it in a bath, in a puddle, in mud, whatever. The money shot at this point is the model's bottom going into the mess. But for reasons unknown to science the producer films it from the front, so you can't actually see what is happening. Either go round behind or get the model to turn round.

3.4. A special place in WAM-hell is reserved for this one: The down-pan. This is where someone has a model sitting down for a gunging, films just their head and upper body as the gunge is poured all over the model, and then, after the pouring is finished, quickly pans down the model's lap and legs to show us the aftermath of all the brilliant stuff they could have just shown us happening if they'd bothered to film from a bit further back. KILL IT, KILL IT WITH FIRE!!!
