The fourteenth Bristol Splunch will take place on Saturday, 16th August 2014 from 2:00pm – 7:00pm in Horts Bar, 49 Broad Street, Bristol, BS1 2EP, and for those who are still peckish/thirsty later at some eatery/watering hole elsewhere in or near the city.
This is a vanilla meet; all over 18 from anywhere are welcome, and entry is free – I might even buy your first drink.
How do I get there?
Broad Street is about twenty minutes walk from Bristol Temple Meads railway station, easily accessible from almost anywhere in the country, and there are several car parks nearby.
From the railway station exit, turn right along Temple Gate to the roundabout, cross over onto Victoria Street, continue over the river bridge into High Street, and bear gently left into Broad Street as High Street turns to the right into Wine Street. Horts Bar is about one hundred yards down on the right.
From the bus/coach station, exit onto Whitson Street, left into Lower Maudlin Street, cross Lewins Mead to Rupert Street and turn right. After about two hundred yards, turn left into Christmas Street, cross Quay Street and through the stone archway into Broad Street. Horts Bar is about fifty yards up on the left.
For those driving, at the bottom of the M32/Newfoundland Street, turn right onto Bond Street, take the first exit at the roundabout into The Haymarket, turn left into Bridewell Street, left into Nelson Street, right into Halifax Street and into the multi-storey on All Saints' Street - only £5 for the whole day, and closer than any other one. Map below.
To get to the bar, from All Saints' Street, turn right into Pithay, right into Tower Lane, left into Newmarket Avenue, and right onto Broad Street - the bar is a few yards down on the right. (Politically correct notice – other car parks are available in Bristol.)
For those flush enough (or subsidised) flying into Bristol (Lulsgate) Airport, take the 331 bus service to the bus/coach station and proceed as above from there.
Hotels – the usual chains are readily available: Premier Inn, Haymarket (next to the bus station, approx ¼ mile – from £88); Premier Inn, King Street (approx ½ mile – from £69); Hotel Ibis, Temple Quay (approx ½ mile – from £85); Hotel Ibis, Anchor Road (approx ½ mile - from £89); Travelodge, Anchor Road (approx ½ mile – full); Travelodge, Mitchell Lane (approx ½ mile – full); Holiday Inn Express (approx ¾ mile – full); Holiday Inn (approx 1 mile – from £118); Novotel, Victoria Street (approx ½ mile – from £99); and Mercure Brigstow (approx ½ mile – from £101). For those hotels that are not available for Saturday only, rooms seem to be readily available for two-night stays, either Friday/Saturday or Saturday/Sunday nights at very reasonable rates. Other hotels are available – check laterooms.com or similar sites.
Dinner – please let me know if you’d like to stay for dinner on Saturday evening.
I’ll be hoping to do an outdoor mud shoot on the Sunday (always subject to the bl**dy weather and availability of models and sober drivers), but I’ll have to see how I feel much nearer the time.
If you have any further questions, post them here or pm me.
Hi Mike, I've had 16th August 2014 noted in my diary for many months so unless there has been something to prevent me from doing so, I will be attending my favorite splunch in my favorite venue and I will be with you there! However I will be going to Sammy's 'do' at St Len's on 5th July before that so it will depend if I survive with all my organs intact! Cheers, Richard.
Not sure we can make this one, we have a Dunk Tank booking in the afternoon in Surrey so if we do make it its likely to be for the meal and anything that happens on the sunday

I see now that the Splosh studio meeting has been cancelled so I'll certainly be at 'Horts Bar' with plenty to talk about so I hope to see you all soon.. Richard
Hoping to get along now, as we hope to have covered the Dunk Tank job on the Saturday . Providing we can get down we're also hoping to do the draw for our Golden Ticket at the meet so we can announce the lucky winner direct from Bristol.

Likewise Making it to a Bristol Splunch is on my bucket list. Along with a hop in a gunge tank!
I've been in a gunge tank (it didn't flow very well but planning to go in Candy Custard's tank sooner rather than later). I've never been in mud before - due to cost I might attend that only rather than Horts bar meet up. What are the details for getting to the mud (time, location, where do we clean up etc)?

You could enter our competition and you might even win a go in our Gunge Tank or Dunk Tank if you can make the dates when the Dunk Tank is full. We'll be drawing the lucky ticket at the Bristol Splunch

Sorry, but due to past issues experienced by others, these details are ONLY made available to those at the Splunch on Saturday.
If we are doing a shoot on the Sunday, attendance is entirely at the discretion of the models, due to an issue we had on a previous occasion.
I don't want to appear negative, but the security and comfort of the models is paramount.
Thanks Mike. I understand and respect the secrecy. I was just a little anxious about going at short notice to an area I'm not familiar with (on a Sunday). Last time I got messy I got on a train home with gunge on my ear so I wouldn't want to go around Bristol with a muddy forehead and have people laugh at me
See you all in a few weeks time. I'm particularly looking forward to meeting Henry, Candy and other names that I regularly see on messy sites and forums.
Been out of hospital for about a month now and things are settling down for the moment. The doctors now know what it is so hopefully treatment will not be far away - a few more tests are needed just to make sure.
Thanks to all of you who have sent messages of support - they have been vital in keeping my spirits up and are worth more than you will ever know.
Good news is that unless I have a relapse I will be fit and well to come and see you all on 16th. Put me down for dinner too.

Those marked (D) are staying for dinner; should we return to the hilarious Chinese, or try somewhere else?
There's still plenty of room, and plenty of time to make up your mind, and I’m sure the list will grow over the next fortnight.. We look forward to seeing you there.
