Just a random question I am thinking of setting up a pool in my attic for messy sessions as it's quite a quirky spot to get gunged in and plus the wife does not like me using the bath anymore and the front room is to much of a pain to do it in.
Does anyone else use there attic if so what sort of fixtures ect can I make to make it into more of a permanent gunging area?
I wish I could use mine but I'd want permanent stairs to be sure of not slipping, a shower up there, waterproof flooring and a food lift/dumb waiter for all my buckets ... so a full loft conversion then basically. haha
One thing about joists etc in your roof... BE VERY CAREFUL about what you do to them. Don't forget that they are holding up your roof, if you attach anything to them without any thought to how much stress you might be putting them under you could say bye bye to your roof!
As pie_guy says, be very careful. Attics and their joists are built to hold roofs, not to use as an extra room without a proper loft conversion done by a builder who knows what he's doing. If you're thinking of putting in heavy pools, buckets of gunge and other kit, you'll be asking for a very expensive disaster (not to mention the embarrasing explanation to the paramedics, and in A&E, when you slip on the gunge on the unsuitable stairs).
I'm just adding another tuppence worth of caution.
Remember that every WAM session is an opportunity to be the topic-du-jour on some paramedic's blog. Plan accordingly.
Unfinished attics are relatively dangerous places to begin with. Adding large quantities of heavy, slippery liquid is a recipe for disaster. Imagine how silly you'll feel when you fall through the ceiling and you're lying naked on the floor below, impaled on a broken joist, covered in custard and plaster dust and bits of insulation, with both your legs broken.
