A glamorous photo shoot overlooking the Pacific Ocean turned terrifying recently for a Russian model who was knocked into the sea by a rogue wave.
The model, billed online as "RussianKate", was posing for a photographer at Abalone Cove in Southern California when she was swamped by two rogue waves, the second of which knocked her off the rock she was standing upon into the churning ocean.
Here's her account, posted on X:
"Today I almost died. During a photoshoot a big wave knocked me over and the current pulled me under. I was getting knocked around the rocks and got swept out to sea. I was underwater for over a minute. I almost drowned, ended up getting swept into a cave where I had to climb out
"Police and helicopters came looking for me. I was so deep in the cave nobody had seen or heard me for over 10 minutes and assumed I was dead or floating out in the ocean.
"I am ok A couple scrapes and cuts but I'm just grateful to be alive. So the moral of my story is, life is crazy. Be grateful for everyday you have and make the most of it because you never know what can happen."
I gather it wasn't even meant to be a wetlook shoot, just "cute pose on rocks overlooking the ocean", but then a couple of rogue waves swept her off the rocks.
So years ago a bride died during a "trash the dress" shoot, the photographer had her wade into a small river, but didn't allow for the drag and weight of the train of the dress - the curent dragged her away, and over a high waterfall to her death.
Never underestimate the power of water, whether freshwater or the sea.
