Both xanthan gum and guar gum powder may be mixed with water to produce a nice slime. Has anyone tried these and can offer advice as to which is best? I have read that guar gum is better when mixed with water for anything not being baked. Xanthan is best as an ingredient for baked foods, but maybe guar gum is best for making slime? Any advice?
We have used both extensively. Xantham is a great cheaper alternative to Natrosol. It mixes well and produces a good slime. Guar Gum has it's uses but isn't ideal on its own for slime. You can make a stretchy kind of slime with guar but it does need some additions.

I've been experimenting with xanthan gum to make pies. When mixed into meringue, it will hold until the end of time.
But I haven't been able to use it on any test subjects yet.
Never used Guar. I look to minimize expenses. And Xanthan looks like it could be a compliment, but not a replacement, for what I already use.
