Really sorry to hear that, WSM is a part of the entire scene's history, way back before most of us had ever realised we weren't the only people on the planet to get more than humour from seeing members of the opposite sex covered in gloop.
I've read your column on your site, re the costs vs subscriptions.
Have you considered changing to a download store instead? The profit per scene is higher, and customers get to pick and chose what they like. Both MM here, and I think at least one of the Mothership brands, do "no storage cost" download hosting, so all it costs is the 30% commission on each sale - effecively no base costs.
Your work is fantastic and many of your films are among my favourite. I too would urge you to rethink your business model rather than throw in the towel.
It always struck me as odd that you could pay just one month's subscription, download the entire library and never pay again. I often thought of re-subscribing, but to be honest the amount of new content didn't make it worth the investment.
If you produce great films, as you do, I would happily pay to download them as one-offs.
I was a member of WSM for a while, and I think the issue with drops in subscription is the lack of NEW material. A lot of what is posted, I already have from when I was subscribed years ago.
Now, the quality might be a little different, but it's still based on the old VHS tapes and analog video.
There is an occasional new update, but not enough to sustain a general interest. Sorry to hear it, hopefully the material will not all fall off the face of the planet.
I have joined a few times, but the issue is most of your content is not "new" either movies are made HD or photosets of videos already on there, maybe like another site you should just do video updates only. As for your buisness model of not getting enough subscribers you put the price up, why not be like a supermarket and reduce the price, as surely you would get more people in.
You have shot your last WAM material now, and are hoping to last to April? Again supply and demand, the more new stock the more iikely you are to entice people in.
I think a VHS tape from WSM was the first wam purchase I ever made. Found it in a box a couple of months ago actually. Finding you was definitely a big inspiration to me then, as WSM's longevity is now. I hope that even though you won't update anymore, you'll still be sticking around!
