I posted something similar a few years back but the post was moved to 'off-topic' so it died!
It related to female and trans content showing up under the male filter. Why does this happen, and is there any way to ensure that content is correctly marked?
Do we need to start to report content that is in the wrong category so it gets moved?
The issue does seem to be getting worse. I have nothing against it per-se, I just don't want to view this content when I have my filter switched to 'men' (having to sift through large volumes of women wearing coats is getting rather annoying!).
Any suggestions?
Thanks!

Yes, we do move posts to Off-topic if they are not about wam. People like to use the Messy forum for its traffic, but it shouldn't be used just for that purpose.
DigitalOrange, you don't currently have the "strict" gender setting turned on in your preferences. I'll turn it on for you. If you don't have that enabled, UMD will return any result that has male content even if it's mixed-gender content.
It is impossible to control thousands of people freely posting content, so I always appreciate it if you could flag any stuff that was not tagged right. I can change the user's settings so their posts and content are tagged correctly going forward.
There is also an FAQ on gender tagging that covers this concept of "one-sided wam" and how we approach trans community: https://umd.net/about_us#gender-tagging
I think a lot of people don't check 'Off-Topic' for this, so maybe a sticky thread explaining where to find this control and a link to the FAQ is needed?
This is the second active thread on this topic this week, so clearly people aren't aware of the subtleties.
Don't get me wrong, I think the subtleties are needed and I know that the system we have now was the result of a lot of consultation, but most people just hit 'female' and then wonder why it "doesn't work" when in fact it's working as designed...
When browsing with no preference set, each thread's tag is shown. For example, I see 'male', 'female', 'coed'. When I set either male or female preference, those vanish. If it still said 'coed' then it might be a better experience - someone would at least be aware before they clicked on it! See my screenshots as an example - I can understand why someone with 'female' selected, seeing a thread called 'thepiegirl.com' might be surprised to see a guy in there (or vice versa).
Or maybe a little link under the toggle buttons to show the FAQ? I'm not sure I ever noticed the 'thread count' before so that might be a good place
(edited to add) - I've just tested and when I set the 'female' toggle it just did it. But when I removed it again, I got a banner saying 'Gender Preference Removed'. Perhaps a good way would be to add a banner when you select a preference saying 'do you want to make it a strict choice?' with a link to the FAQ?
