Isn't it about time we stopped awarding this to professional models and just let it go the the amateurs who ain't making money from this but whose pics we love? Maybe have 2 WOTD award one for the pros one for the rest?
As former WOTD and total amateur that's never earned a penny off of this I can honestly say it's pretty awesome feeling getting WOTD. Knowing little ole me taking videos of me and my wife on a iPhone can beat out some producers is a nice little feather in the cap. I get where you're coming from but honestly it's fine like it is. Getting a little bit notoriety on here by winning WOTD hopefully makes more amateurs wanna put their content out there and who knows maybe they can get a little piece of the pie too?
Current WOTD is ZTD, who started out here as a user iirc before becoming a producer of her own content, and Jayce seems to be WOTD pretty frequently, so, it's not like the big corporate shops are keeping the little guy down completely.
It honestly doesn't get more amateur than little old me and, from memory, I think I've been WOTD three times. It's a massive honour and I do think it's open to all, you just have to participate and share your fun times with like minded people.
WOTD is awarded by total 'loves' on any given day. This has evolved over a long period of time. It's not perfect, but there isn't really a fairer way of doing it. Even when mass photo dumps were common practice for makers of content; 'ordinary' users could achieve the same thing by filling their albums and posts with other people's photos.
The last thing that would work is introducing any form of subjective input and any attempt to draw a line between 'pro' and 'amateur' would be entirely arbitrary as it's actually impossible to truly define in practice. While it might appear to the casual observer that the 'same old people' are winning it, being a store owner or paid model is by no means the common denominator.
It definitely goes to amateurs. I know I received it once. Ultimately it comes down to who has posted a lot of recent content that has created engagement on the site. That tends to be harder for an amateur to do since we generally aren't able to continually produce content, but it happens. I know folks like Muddyben, Muddybob, and others have been there. For someone like me it's a bit harder since my body type tends to have less of a wide-range appeal. Wish I had started posting back in 2011 when I had myself at a pretty fit 230.
All this said, if the owner was so inclined, you could have a "Producer" and "Amateur" wammer of the day. I think this would benefit both as it would simultaneous get more visibility to producers while also highlighting some of the amateur content providers.
Either way, I'm typically just happy when I get some likes on what I post.

It's just a simple function that adds up all the heart-clicks and views and stuff, and figures out who has the highest score for that day. It does have a few knobs that I turn from time to time (usually to unweight the forum pic dumps), but nothing smart enough to know who's an amateur or a pro.
The FAQ has an extensive section on how the ratings work: https://umd.net/about_us#ratings but I'm always here for suggestions if you think a tweak is needed.
