I love Cool Whip. It doesn't lose it's consistency easily or start to smell like whipped cream does, plus you can easily doctor it with all kinds of other things to make fun WAM substances. I don't care for it as a foodstuff but as a mess ingredient it's heavenly.
Cool Whip doesn't leave the terrible residual smell that whipped cream leaves, and also seems to hold up better before starting to melt.
With that said, I've recently been moving from Cool Whip to a mix of marshmallow fluff and frosting -- it's a bit stickier and takes more work to mix together, but the texture is awesome and it makes way better splats.
so i am a fan of how heavy cream can turn out, it can turn out horribly too, but yea the smell is hard to get rid of, and cool whip doesn't smell as bad. my wife asked me to stop using heavy cream and seems to have more fun with the cool whip.
we have albums and all the old stuff when shes younger is heavy cream and new stuff cool whip. but i mix in stuff to both styles to thicken it and add texture!

Mr Bubble Foam in a can makes great pies. Mild soap, makes great pies, smells great, feels great, colors and east clean up . Whip cream smells as does cool whip..It piles up well and doesn't fall off, keeps the crust stuck to your face. And tastes great if forced to swallow
