Hey there.

From time to time there is a post regarding wet and messy video games. I'm definitely one of those people who think that wam is better live (after all, I've been taking wetlook photos for several years). But there was an opportunity to try it, and it's quite a lot of fun creating it.

So, it is a sort of byproduct of my day job. Working title: "Wamgame: The Photoshoot". Check the screenshots below. There will be a tech demo available for download on https://wamgame.eu soon, so anyone with a somewhat solid PC setup can try it out.

I also created a Patreon page so those who'd like to support the game had the opportunity to do so. It will hopefully be available soon at https://patreon.com/wamgame

Any comments are welcome. I'm a bit conservative when it comes to the visuals, the looks of the models, etc. So I'll definitely appreciate any input.

Looking at the 3rd picture in particular, it looks like you have multiple choices for dialogue (rather than just throwing stuff), which reminds me of visual novels.

I know that some people (e.g. Jouette) have written interactive fiction for WAM (i.e. "choose your own adventure" stories), but I haven't seen a VN version, and this could be the start of a new trend!

Really impressive work so far!
I started developing such a game in Unreal Engine two or three years ago, also with a "photoshoot" setting, a rotating camera, different clothes and with a VR mode in mind, but I never got as far as you did!

The way I see stuff like this go: your money will be in the outfits/customization. May want to open it to male avatars as well as female. And if there's a "Pie" button I'm goin go to press it until I wear out

Flank: True. I'd like to add a bit of a story to it. I like when the game motivates me to keep playing, when everything comes at a price. And I value immersion the most in games.
First I wanted to make this just a pie throwing game, but I'm not able to keep things simple
Everyone probably won't appreciate it, so there will definitely be some freeplay mode for the impatient ones.

This looks like it has some great potential. Will you be hiring voice actors for anything or will it all be fairly silent so to say?

Looks great! I made a simple WAM game in Unity back around 2018, and the biggest hurdle I ran into (other than at my at-the-time complete lack of 3D modeling/animation skills) was that any attempted fluid sim resulted in framerate hell. I remember trying Fluvio and ObiFluids before settling on just faking it with a sprite-based particle emitter and a texture-painting script.

I'm really excited to see how this turns out as well!

dalamar666: Oh, no. It certainly won't be silent. Actually, if you piss off the model, she'll give you a good scolding I decided to give up recording voice-overs for now and tried something else. I'll see how it develops based on the reactions. I'll post a video tomorrow for you to see. And hear

RdBd: I followed quite similar path. From the beginning, it's just cutting down details and features to make it playable on an ordinary computer. Right now I have an RTX 3080 and sometimes it spins like a helicopter. II have left Obi fluid for now because the particles serve quite well. But I definitely want to go back to Obi, because slime without a proper slime simulation will never look believable

wammer83, Myds: Well, there are already algorithms for converting an image into a 3D model, converting a video into a motion capture file, automatic rigging and voice cloning. VR glasses, haptic gloves... Man, we'll live to see it all. Freaking StarTrek...

Anyway, adding a model to the game is a pretty straight forward process for me at this point. So if you have any request in this regard let me know.

Amazing. I've done some 3d stuff and I'm impressed with your mess. I usually have to create it carefully. I was thinking highly customized 3d figs I have made, that's why I was wondering about self importing. What kind of character files can be brought in?

I should mention that the patreon link you posted doesn't go to a creator page.

That's gotta be real hard on the HDMI/digital video cables I just have this visual of the video card spinning inside the case and pulling your monitor off the desk as it winds up the cable like so much fishing line.

I recently upgraded to an RTX 3060 Ti for my animations, and if you're giving a 3080 a healthy workout, that means it'd probably thrash my rig. Best of luck optimizing it all - game dev is my normal IRL job, and that's always one of my least favorite parts of any project.

Myds: Thank you. There is a lot of purchased assets and 3rd party stuff in the mix. Mostly my job is just putting all together.
I guess any humanoid character in fbx or obj format will do.

The concept of this is.... wow!

I have seen the development background of regular VN's, but having something like this that is much more interactive - i can understand the level of difficulty that goes into it!

Just from the tech demo - this is certainly something to behold! Be very interested to see what you are able to include in it!

Probably not something you can, but i would be very interested to see if you can include clothes filling in it, rather than just outer model coverage

I tried VN as well, but in the end a full 3D game is much more versatile. The downside, of course, is that you can't play it on an ordinary office laptop. But as I said, it is versatile and I can allways make some graphic novel out of it. Man, now it occurs to me that it is actually a great idea. Thank you

This is cool! Would be cool to customize the characters

Unfortunately, customization is somewhat limited by the way the game is developed (for now at least). But in some form it'll definitely be present. It would probably be possible to change hair colour, colours and materials of clothing, or switching some accessories (e.g. glasses).

Thank you! Still, an awful lot of work to be done. Including lots of green slime of course. Speaking of which, I should probably make possible for a player to set the level of gloppines. What do you think?

I'm sold, I want to play, how do I join?

After some time spent playing, I had some thoughts.

1. I love the fact that there's an actual game element to your game. It shouldn't have caught me off guard like it did, but it did. It makes it more rewarding to play when there's a budget, and a social/relationship meter to manage, as well as content to unlock. I guess in my head it was an open-ended sandbox experience, but this is way better.

2. I love the small details like the bottles momentarily deforming as you squeeze them. I probably wouldn't have noticed if it wasn't there, but the fact that it was was incredibly satisfying.

3. The aim controls felt a little awkward from some of the camera angles, but the way you chose to design it is still a better choice than a full 3D first person system.

4. The dynamic paint/decaling - especially for the water - was really good!

Aside from a few audio errors (mostly overlapping/looping dialog), it was a pretty hassle-free playing experience, too. I'm excited to see more in the future!

Awesome game played it for a bit and definitely looks great, I did have some issues with dialogue not having a box around it or not having the words spoken during that. Definitely can't wait to see what happens next with this game

1. I love you love it. I'm too old-school not to make the game a bit challenging. But I will probably have to include some sandbox mode for those who just want to rampage.
