We have gotten the bulk buckets of buttercream a couple of times from Sam's Club and it's lots of fun but my partner says the only thing she doesn't like is that it's cold well it's room temp but feels cold on the skin. So I was trying to figure out the easiest way to warm up a 14lb bucket of buttercream. I thought about setting it in the bathtub and filling the tub with the hottest water possible but to me the bucket walls seem a little to thick to allow the heat to transfer to the buttercream. Anyone have any ideas?
I think you're on the right track I'd be trying some sort of a modified "double boil" design with another bucket of very hot water. Maybe not a bathtub though.

Bathtub or sink, with warm water (not hot, not luke-warm), and let it sit for a looong time (I guess 30 to 45mins?). After 15 or 20 mins take a whisk and mix it up to fold in the warm with the cool, and let it sit in the warm water for a while longer. Add more warm water if needed, if the water cools off too much.
Too hot, and the outside metls while the inside stays cold, and whisking it isn't so nice. Too cool and not much happens for heat transfer.
BYW this also works for multiple cans of shaving cream. Makes them nice and warm and allows the contents to expand ever more than when they're cold.

I would take out a plastic jug worth, or half a plastic jug worth at a time, microwave it 20 seconds (or experiment with times til you get it how you want it) then put it in a different bucket (so none of it gets microwaved twice and then it won't go too runny)
If you do the warm water thing you'll get runny round the edges and colder/harder in the middle. Might be ok with fairly constant stirring, but the water will lose heat quickly and need replacing and be more time consuming than the microwave method
This suggestion definitely depends upon time, season, and available location.
If you are running your heater for your house, you can place the bucket next to the heater vent (if a floor vent), Cover the vent and the bucket with a large box that has a small vent hole.
Again it takes time and planning but this works wonderfully.
