Anyone ever had an accident or near-miss during a WAM session? I have to say, the thought that I could slip over and bang my head and end up dead, only to be found covered in all the food from a WAM session by my spouse or someone, never leaves the back of my mind and I am always careful to step very deliberately to avoid such accidents!

I had a very close call the other day, not when I was actually getting messy, but when I was cleaning up. I was flushing copious amounts of squished cake down the toilet as it's a convenient way to get rid of the mess. Like many folks I had also brought a fan heater into the bathroom to take the edge off the cold. Normally none of the above is an issue, but on this occasion, I managed to block the toilet, which overflowed and totally flooded the bathroom floor. I watched in horror as this wave of water slooshed around the fan heater, which was still going at full pelt, and just totally panicked with the realisation that this was a major electrical hazard!!! I jumped out of the water pool and got to the mains switch and killed the power, and then grabbed the heater and hung it up to drain out. Thankfully, crisis averted. Then I had to spend a couple of hours cleaning up the additional mess from what should have been a straight forward clean up session. Oh well, at least I am still alive!!!

I have had several involving slime and bathtubs. It's a calculated risk. Of course, I'm lucky enough where I never mess alone. Even when I'm not producing I always get messy with my SO. Plus there was this one time a few weeks ago where I was out a few miles into the woods and I'm pretty sure I saw a bear walk by mid mess. As in an actual bear, not a fuzzy dude in leather straps.

Glad to see you didn't electrocute yourself, BTW. I've found contractor trash bags are more reliable than toilets for disposing messes.

Kind of. Less mess more near death. Either way posting here gets more attention than the mess forum. Everything there is pretty much drown out by promotions.... which... I am admittedly guilty of.

How did you explain that at the hospital?

I was taken to the ER after having a seizure during a mud shoot. Luckily I had someone with me, my original plan was to do it myself. After the seizure I had no idea what had happened or where I was for a few mins. I didn't have the strength to walk on my own and it was 90 degrees out. We were in the middle of the woods off of a path that was intentionally hidden so people couldn't find us. Had I been alone I would not have been able to walk to where the EMT's arrived and they would not have been able to find me. As it was Sarah had to walk off from where we were to get cell reception and call 911 so I wouldn't have even been able to call 911 by myself.

And this was the 2nd time I could have died in mud if other people weren't there to help me. So don't do that shit by yourself.

When I was covered in mud at the ER everyone who saw me kept asking what I had been doing. Luckily my friend and I are good at improve so we can up with a decent cover story that no one questioned too much. One of the EMT's kept joking around saying we were searching for Pokemon, lol.

I am giving this thread a lot of s because I never thought of this topic before. I never thought to put together "WAM" and "near death experience" (NDE). Is a WAM NDE like you see a white light in a tunnel but it turns out to be a pie heading directly towards your face?

Either that, or white gunge coming down the tunnel right at you!

I do spend some time mudding & mostly on my own. I am getting a bit nervous with all these dangerous happenings & while I like having a mudbuddy it isn't always possible--Anyone volunteering to hold my hand lol

It's kinda awkward to have an EMT cleaning mud off of you to start an IV, but who knows, maybe he had a medical fetish & a wam fetish and I totally made his day!

I'm asthmatic - I went outside to dispose of some gunge down the drain. I'd been gunged inside and was still wet with it - it was Winter outside. I had a bad reaction to the cold - amplified by the temperature and had an asthma attack. Luckily my fiancee was on hand to calm me down and help me use my inhaler.

Not a near-death experience but I've also scalded myself - used gravy that hadn't cooled down enough and burned all the top of my scalp. Owch.

We were in the middle of some fun, and he took a real pie and just tossed it at me like he was trying to strike out the batter at the bottom of the ninth. He just winged that sucker when I wasn't --quite-- prepared for it, and it hit me in the face like a plate of banana cement!

Real pies are heavy (dontcha know), and this one was more greasy than creamy, it turned out.

A whole bunch of it flow into my mouth, including a bunch of crust. It shot back pretty good, and my gag reflex kicked in HARD. I didn't choke exactly (I could still inhale), but if you've ever swallowed anything "down the wrong pipes" or something like that, you can imagine the coughing fit.

I couldn't clear my mouth very well, and for a few moments there I had some panic.

Not quite near death (THANK GOD) but close enough for me.

I've never had any kind of near-death wam experience, but I have had to remind myself to breathe a few times in the midst of a pieing session. When my face is getting covered in pies and plates, it can sometimes be a bit suffocating but nothing to warrant calling it (near death).
I have heard horror stories from other wam friends about their injuries. Buckets of gunge breaking and clonking their heads, bad reactions to different substances, facial injuries from flan-flingers being too forceful, slipping, etc. etc.
