Actually, I wonder if a lot of the people in this thread don't know what to do to feel safer. And if that's true for you (whoever you are), I wonder what you've tried so far.
I bought passports. For me and part of the family.
I absolutely hate to travel. If these are a waste of money, that will be wonderful news.

As I understand it, it's very unlikely Newsom will be on the ticket, due to intricacies in the Electoral College, the Constitution and the 12th amendment.
Snopes lays it out pretty thoroughly, but the short version essentially when the electors meet to vote for their candidates, they cannot cast both of their votes (President and VP) for the state they represent. They can only vote for one candidate from their state.
So, all of those California delegates would be unable to cast their votes for both Harris and Newsom.
I'm surprised more news outlets (especially the more reputable ones) haven't bothered to report on that. Then again, they're probably just hunting for clicks. (Like the headline I saw saying Harris should pick a Midwestern governor and then only ONE of the 4 people in the photo were Midwestern governors.)
Happy to be corrected if I've gone wrong here, but that's my understanding of the situation!

I do believe you are correct. So that may remove Newsom from the running, unless he can claim a different state for residency, which we have seen happen before. Mark Kelly has been getting a lot of press as a potential VP, so maybe it won't even be an issue.
Yeah the residency issue has come up in previous campaigns and they just chose a different state for residency. Pretty shitty if you ask me. It should be based on when you say you lived on your taxes and the state you pay income taxes to.
I do not want to see a Pete ticket because unfortunately it would become Harri/Butt. Aint no one want that on a bumper sticker.
I would like to see her choose a moderate conservative to snatch up the Republicans that hate Trump but don't want to vote Democrat, but I doubt that will happen.
I just want to see us have a nonwhite candidate that did not face the racist rhetoric of not born here, DEI pick etc.

Agreed, I believe it's how Cheney/Bush got around it, although it may be tricky when Newsom is actively the Governor of CA...isn't his permanent address the governor's mansion?
Regardless, California will always go blue, so my completely unqualified assumption is she'll pick someone who can help grab a purple state instead of running up the score with the base a la Trump picking Vance.
