Candy had expressed an interest in vertical total submersion in mud; indeed she was determined to do it, despite the known difficulties. An opportunity arose after a Splunch, and we adjourned to a quarry silt pond where the girls changed into pvc outfits and thigh boots for their adventure in the ooze. With much help from Sammy-Jane, Candy submerged in the mire, not once, but several times, and followed this with several prone sinkings in the sloppy clay.
They never did find the bottom, and struggled for ages to get out.
Note: It was blowing a hooley that day, and while much of the camera motion and shake has been removed, a little remains, and turn your speakers down; the wind noise is awful.
This was so much fun, and filmed on the same day the tiswas night, that was one crazy day!
Anyone scared of mud due to movie quicksand scenes, this is proof positive you need some extra force to really, really get submerged. Thank you Mike for giving me this awesome experience
Walex said: That looks fantastic. I'd definitely love to add vertical submersion to my WAM bucket list!
What difficulties are involved Mike?
Difficulty - Physics. More specifically, Archimedes' Principle. Roughly, the mass of the body immersed is equal to the mass of the fluid displaced. Mud is far more difficult to get to move than, say, water. When you sink in mud, you, or anyone else, will stop at about boob/armpit level. This is why Candy needed Sammy's help to get her under. I have managed solo total submersion myself, but it is very difficult. I was lucky enough to find a spot several feet deep with some very thick mud at the bottom: I was able to anchor my feet in it, and by bending my knees, pull myself down below the surface wearing a rubber hood with breathing tubes attached. It's similar to total sensory deprivation; no sight, no taste, no hearing except one's breathing, no smell except the latex, and the only feeling is the gentle squeeze or caress of the mud. If the mud is thin enough that one can submerge by jumping in, ones buoyancy will return one to the surface in a very short time. This will be demonstrated by Sammy-Jane and Eden in one of my later videos. Most videos of girls sinking in mud, etc are qchieved by the girl lying almost prone on her back just beneath the surface of the mud and then easing her head and face below the surface: very, very few (if any) feature vertical full submersion.
Find a mucky friend to help you, and take a rope. All the best.

Sammy-Jane's turn to go under came almost two years later.
Yep, it's surprised me how hard it is to sink beyond my chest in deep mud, and I even have to work at that. I've managed to get fully under in thick, shallower mud by laying down and more or less burying myself, or briefly by using swimming motions in more liquid stuff.
wow, Sammy-Jane She's a big favourite... Her scenes with Jo Bache, Gilly etc. come to my mind. Didn't know she still does wam. Would love to see her in a messy scene too Keep up the good work
I remember it well, too - the long trek, the late running, some fabulous fun for the girls, the huge clean-up job for both of them, the long trek back.
