Turns out that painstakingly booking models for 2 decades, buying supplies, and paying for shoots was the wrong way to make WAM.

While I don't dispute the work of noted investigative journalist Ryan Seacrest ( )..... I notice that Steve has definitely made sure the "My father didn't give me a dime to start my career" narrative is all over the Internet. So that's probably accurate. I can buy the being in debt 6 figures as well.

But what no one mentions is that Steve's dad died in 2008.... and left him $50 million.
And when does Steve Aoki put out his first album of mediocre EDM and start becoming a big-time festival DJ? 2008.

I believe that two things are true: Steve DID attempt a music career for a decade, without his father's help, and racked up major debt along the way.
And then Steve got his inheritance of $50 million from the death of his father, and SUDDENLY his career became WAY more successful, almost as if an overnight influx of cash contributed!

Anyway. He put some of that $50 mil towards cakes to throw at hot girls in skimpy EDM attire, so for that I'll always be grateful.

Lol I've been here since 1998, and this is the first UMD drama I've been involved with. I'm sorry Dave Blunts, NBA Youngboy, and Quando Rondo objectively suck at making music.

My only experience with Steve Aoki is secondhand thank's to some collabs with Linkin Park in the past. I heard those tracks and had a hearty "MEH" about them. I can't tell you if they're bad or not 'cause they just weren't my thing.

If I want some electronic dance music, I'm happy to return to 1998 and fire up some Prodigy or Fatboy Slim instead. But I don't think either of those acts were known for throwing cakes...

I can't remember any songs called "Cake My Bitch Up" or "The Rockafeller Cake."

Lucky man! Geez, the days of Lovingway (?) and his nemesis (can't remember his name, but he started a whole WAM channel called "LovingwaySUCKS") were epic drama in a very innocent, early-Aughts way. I somehow got tangled up in that for a bit. (Also I eventually got banned from the "Classic Pies Forum," I think. Because my stuff was "too close to WAM." LOL. The moderator was a guy who "hated" WAM.... but loved starting pie fights with his male friends! Also Smurfs. He got outed by his own followers eventually. It was a whole thing....)

I think the last "drama" I was involved with on the UMD involved KelseyRose, AKA the guy who Catfished the UMD for a couple years. (He was the #1 Female WAMmer for months! ) Boy, was he mad that I insinuated he might not be 100% legit. And boy did the UMD take the side of the hot female avatar (who was oddly into male-centric WAM) over me. Anyway, this is small potatoes compared to that BS.

The UMD chaos of the early 2000s will never be surpassed! Haha

Steve Aoki totally stole my ravers covered in cake gimmick. I started shooting for a site called eroticBPM (formerly known as raverporn.net) eternities ago. I did my first raver girl smashing a cake session in 2008 as part of a commissioned custom. He started heaving cakes at ravers in the early 2010s

I didn't make my way to UMD for several years after that. I was just photographing and recording ravers making a mess and selling mostly on clips4sale/manyvids and promoting my work on tumblr primarily but also Twitter.

It could be pure coincidence but I find it more amusing, and not entirely unlikely that he had seen some of my stuff that would inevitably surface on the various rave and edm forums (as well as less favorable sites that would repost pirated content) and thought "hey I can do that too"

I wasn't anything like as active here back then but I vaguely remember some of that, including low-res downloadable videos of ex-TV scenes with the LS banner across them, on Yahoo (remember that?) I think. never really saw the full details of it, just the subsequent fallout.

The Classic Pie Forum guy was Shane Jensen. NOT the actor in the quirky horror film Good Boy. Different Shane. We had a discussion about him (and other old-timers) over a decade ago on this very UMD.
