The New Truth or Consequences once had a segment where a guy with the most weird laugh was pulled from the audience, and for the rest of the show when something funny happened he had to do the laugh. If the audience laughed, he won a price but if they groaned (it was rigged, they always groaned) he would get messed.
The scene: guy was sitting on a chair. Model in a swimsuit came out, sat on his lap, and peeled a banana while he had to do the laugh. He loses, gets slimed--I think? Then he gets pied.
Maaaaan that one might have been my origin point. Have yet to find it again.
A bit off topic because this wasn't a scene from a movie or TV but a real life incident I recounted here https://umd.net/forums/most-memorable-messy-or-muddy-experience Where Mel was repeatedly thrown into a mud pit over and over. During her unfortunate (lol) experience I know photos and at least one video was taken. I'd love to see those but I know that's never likely to happen because it was several decades ago now

I remember a Truth or Consequences episode where four couples where picked out of the audience and separated. The men were placed in humiliating scenario (dunk tank, mud, etc) one guy was place in the stocks by a beautiful model with a bunch of pies. Then the wives were brought out one by one and asked which scenario was funnier? Every wife said the pie in the face. Then would walk over and watch the model hit the guy in the face with a pie and the wives all laughed. I realized that day women love to see a man humiliated with a pie in the face.
There was a great scene where a woman was in all black laying in a tub with her hair draped over the back of the tub. Two women doused her with honey, then chocolate sauce, and then pied her a few times. Then did the same treatment a second time. Seemed like the clip I saw was not the full video, but it was taken down from where it was being hosted, so I can't even find the partial video anymoresigh.
red said: So there was a movie called Spring Break 83 that had several people getting pied including Downtown Julie Brown and Aviva Bauman. Unfortunately the production company was a big scam operation and the movie never came out. There is a trailer available which shows Julie Brown getting pied and there used to be several pictures showing others like Aviva getting pied but those appear to be gone.
People deffo uploaded those pics here but the search functions fucked here so its a chew on finding em like
Never mind was linked before by Rich but aye photos have been scrubbed unless anyone saved them lol
Let's see... do I have the ability to upload pics here?
Wish we could see this scene someday! Sadly it now sits on hard drive in the warehouse where they're keeping the Ark

It took five days to film the scene due to needing several hours between takes !
Wasn't there an episode of Sledge Hammer where this happened?
3 for me - Jerry Springer - fake confrontation where customer got a huuuge plate of red spaghetti dumped on her by the waitress in a restaurant.
SNL - fake toothpaste commercial where some one got a large amount of toothpaste squeezed on them.
Early 90s syndicated gameshow - the finale was often the final 2 contestants wedged in a chimney, just getting dumped on until the loser finally hit the bottom.
Clinton77 said: Mine is an episode of a Jonathan Winters show from around '69 that had Soupy Sales as a guest in which several women got pied in black outs. As it unfolded, I wondered if a beautiful blonde who I had seen earlier in the show would get pied and, sure enough, she was the last one pied. Incredible!
Six beautiful women were among the guests on that episode (actress Shani Wallis, vocal group the Four King Cousins, and Pamela Rodgers from Laugh-In), so the chances are good that any or all of them got pied.

Charo pieing herself on Masterjoke Theater. Unlike the similar Annette F. scene discussed above, this one did air but it seems not to have been captured by anyone with a VCR, and was not included on the Captain and Tennille DVD box (which wasn't the complete run of the show, just portions of it).
To avoid confusion: There is a circulating clip of Charo being pied by "William Shakespeare" on another variety show done around the same time. It's a great little clip but of course it would be great to see her C&T pieing as well,
Back with a question- do aftermaths count? Because there are *several* I had in mind:
- there's a video of Sophie Monk out there of her and her sister both going down a slip in slide on Christmas Day in maxis and ending up in a baby pool. Would have loved to see the soaked aftermath of that.
- like 8 years ago it rained the entire day of the Preakness Stakes and the fanfest area was basically a swamp. There was a video going around of two people mud wrestling and it has a very short, ~2 second clip at the beginning of a girl covered in mud pushing a guy away and I've always wondered what preceded that. Well, I found this article, and there's a picture way down of a girl in a floral dress diving down into the mud and now I'm wondering if that was her and how she got so muddy.
- Kayla jumping in the pool in an evening gown on Bachelor Australia. Maybe they did show the aftermath but if they didn't, I don't think anyone would have minded seeing her in a soaking wet gown.
There used to be videos from a guy called WAMmartyr on youtube, usually just a woman on a chair being totally covered for upwards of 20 minutes.
The other grail was these redneck types who'd uploaded a woman being tied to a chair outside their caravan and repeatedly pied + covered in sauce. apparently they uploaded more but that's the only one I saw.
My holy grails would be from 90s Spanish TV shows. One with the presenter Vanessa Martyn getting gunged and pied and episodes from the game show Plastic, especially one where two girls stood facing each other, each under a basket, and had to throw raw eggs into their rival's basket dropping the eggs on their heads

Mine would be the 1997 Latina beauty queen pie fight that aired on Univision. The clip is available on clip tapes but i'm sure there's some amazing unedited footage in Univision's archives that will never be seen. There are several great direct hits with no real aftermath so would love to see some unedited footage to see if there are more and the quality of the women is unreal.

That reminds me of some "mainstream" wam I did. My friend's sister wanted to shoot a commercial for her catering business, and had each of us say a line about how great her desserts were, and get pied in the face. We each took about 8 pies, and myself and one of the actresses got slimed.
As for a personal Holy Grail, the Jenny Jones Show had two episodes with women pouring milk over their heads and faces. I used to have both scenes on VHS, but lost the tapes decades ago.
One day, when time travel exists, someone will be able to go back and get the aftermath of Jane Curtin getting a great pie sandwich.
More immediately, it's producer content, but Mr_Pies here and Piemyface2 on Instagram will occasionally (like, once a year) update his profile picture or Instagram with clips of some great pie hits he's produced...but it's been years, so no store will ever materialize despite the content seeming top notch, so that's another lost cause of a different sort...
This topic has been raised many many times on UMD over the last 25 years, and all the data and feedback and sightings from WAM fans has been noted. The most comprehensive list of most wanted/lost wam scenes was created by Hurley Coward in the late 1990s. He published his list of over 50 holy grail wam scenes in his newsletter, so those of you who have copies of his old newsletters can use that as a starting point. If you have a wam blog then publish that list and then update it with the last 25 years of sightings and input from fans.
There are lots of updates to be made, including items that have been found, new additions from fans, and the status of remaining lost scenes. There must be well over 100 items to be updated now on this Holy Grail list.
It would be helpful if whoever publishes a new list can segregate or classify the items as being either:
CONFIRMED SIGHTINGS BUT UNLIKELY TO EVER BE FOUND.
For example the Esther Muir slapstick scene from "A Day At The Races" where we have all the still photos, but the footage was allegedly destroyed by Groucho, or the Playboy bunnies having a pie fight in an early 60s episode of The Steve Allen Show, where we wrote letters to Steve Allen in 1990s and he confirmed that he did not have this footage in his archives. Same thing with all lost scenes from The Mike Douglas Show, cos Hurley's friend in Las Vegas wrote letters to Mike Douglas when he was alive and he kindly replied to say he had lost many of his shows from his archives.
CONFIRMED SIGHTINGS - FOOTAGE STILL EXISTS BUT THEY HAVE NOT RELEASED IT.
Such as the Masterjoke Theater lost pie scenes, and the Dr, Strangelove deleted pie fight footage that definitely exists and was screened privately during Stanley Kubrick's wake, and then his heirs donated the lost pie fight footage to The British Film Institute (BFI) but to this date BFI have still not released that deleted scene.
LOST ITEM FOUND: Several items mentioned were found and are already in the collections of many wam fans, including the Vanna White and Debbie Reynolds pie scenes.
In 2003 I launched TheWAMBANK website and we had a "Most Wanted" section where fans could post data on their most wanted wam scenes, and we had over 70 items on that list as well.
Unfortunately I am too busy working on other projects to archive everything today, but there are many other wam experts who have an extensive knowledge of Holy Grail wam scenes, including Rich from SlapstickStuff,
Hey! I don't have the Hurley newsletters anymore, but I did find an old Word doc with the contents of all his cliptapes... but, sadly, the "Clips Wanted" portion isn't there. I would assume it's pretty out-of-date by now however. (The Virginia Slims ad was one of the "Wanted" clips I remember, and then it surfaced ages ago... Maybe 2 decades by now?)
From my recollection, these are the ones that keep coming up over & over and SHOULD be out there somewhere, but have yet to surface: --the Captain & Tennille "Masterjoke" skits with Charo and Annette F, as mentioned.
--the full clip of the Elvira pie scene (not the 1/2 second excerpt from Bloopers & Practical Jokes). Supposedly, the episode is House Of The Dead from May 26, 1984, but I can't confirm. A ton of the vintage Movie Macabre episodes are on YT now... This isn't one of them. (Side note: This is a running joke between Robby and myself, as he GOT this episode in a trade.... then the VHS got destroyed when he had some flooding. I've probably asked him 100 times if he's ever found another copy. Always no. He brought it up as a joke in our last email too!!)
--the missing Electric Company clips (Rita Moreno & others).... There's quite a few that have never surfaced, or they're in poor quality. The great "Nasty" pieing on YT is from an old HC tape, actually, and bad quality. I've never personally seen the skit called "Pie In The Face" (with -er and -est) or the extended "Oooops" where Rita the waitress gets it, so I'd love for those to surface at some point in my lifetime....
--Spring Break '83.... a truly lost opportunity in every sense.
Two local ads from the last "Holy Grail" thread that intrigued me.... I've hunted a bit off-and-on but no luck: --an ad for "TV Week" magazine where a pretty brunette gets clobbered with a pie in extreme closeup, aired on WPIX NYC in the late 70s, almost exclusively during the afternoon cartoon/Three Stooges block. Might've aired in other markets as well? --a Chicago-era ad for radio station WXRT where the model goes "That's where I get my hits!" and gets clobbered. I think this is also mid-70s, so another needle in a haystack.
A lot of "lost" scenes got discovered in the 2010s, when YouTube was at its peak for folks uploading old shows from their old archives. We got most (all?) of the Price is Right pie clips that way, which were definitely on Hurley's list.
Also on Hurley's list? A few "fakes".... or at least one that Mark will remember. A Suzanne Somers special from the 80s on a cruise ship supposedly featured her getting pied, AND guest Marie Osmond getting thrown into a pie like Donny did in the 70s. (And with Marie finally going in face-first!) Sounded amazing. Mark actually FOUND the special... No mess whatsoever. Guy who suggested it either had an active imagination or a troll streak.

The BBC have the Charlotte NHP gunging in HD in their archives, they used a short clip in a reflections programme, that will probably never be available. Presumably this means they have the rest of them too.
On the notion whether these scenes are lost forever id like to offer a bit of hope about the restoration of Wake In Fright, the amazing and horrifying film about the Australian outback and madness.
In 1996, Anthony Buckley, the editor of Wake in Fright, started searching for the original materials. In 1998, he located the negatives in London at a bonded warehouse, only to find on arrival that the film had been shipped to the United States the week before.
The search continued for another four years until, in 2002, the original film materials were finally located in a Pittsburgh vault marked for destruction and imminent disposal.
So ya never know might find the playboy bunnies pie scene (can't recall who was meant to have done that, it was the guy who always had his wife get pied in his sketches I think) in some basement in Hollyweird. Once we got one of us lot in high society im sure where there's a will theres a way.
Unless the nukes fall on all of us in 3 weeks time. Ah well
EDIT: just saw the playboy scene mentioned above lol
gungeduke said: This has been covered a few times but absolutely the Zoe Ball mini gunk dunk segment on BBC - I watched it live at the time so I know it happened but have never seen a shred of it! She was hot though, epic gunging!
I remember seeing that too back in the day as it was a promo for Comic Relief.
Was pretty awesome
I also remember it vividly, the gunge was really dark and it showed you how the contestants got into the seat above the gunk dunk, by walking across a board that was laid across it. It was a promo for the 1994 series, and when they cut back to Zoe in the studio and asked her what it was like, she commented "the depth, and the smell, it really is getting your own back!"
My grail scene is Camilla Power from Emmerdale on Gimme 5's Tweak the Beak - I know the scene is floating around because I've seen stills of it. Some years later I developed a huge crush on Malandra Burrows and misremembered that it was her - so that was a blow when years later I learned otherwise - but I'd still love to see the clip again haha!
Wait the Camilla Power one ACTUALLY DID HAPPEN?? I read one sentence somewhere about it years ago and - beyond confirming she appeared on the show at the right time - could never find even a shred of text or imagery to verify it. I even did a tweet last year about it, asking for someone to just say yes/no if it happened. Where did you see the stills, if you remember, please? I would kill to even do that!

Speaking of grails and recovered scenes, do you recognize this lovely young lady? (Spoiler: she would get very wet later that day)
