Noel's House Party in my opinion.

The later seasons of NHP included a gunge-heavy trip round the house, where the victim was strapped to a moving chair and gunged more than once.
The best innovation, though, was a two-pronged foam spray at face height, just before the final gunging. Carol Vorderman and Anneka Rice took this blast spectacularly well. So NHP gets my vote.

I was almost certainly personally radicalized by the pink slop unleashed by "The Crowning Glory."

NHP had the best gunge in terms of thickness and color

Though GYOB isn't to be written off in either regard as it had decently thick gunge as well as sheer volume and the fact that it's gunge victims almost always got completely submerged

I'm struggling to think of any others that can be mentioned here, other than OTT and maybe The Kenny Everett Video Show.

Series 1-3 of Noels House Party are kind of imprinted on my brain as that was what sold me on this whole thing and made realise I was into it. There may be TV shows where it was better, but I can't divorce the nostalgia from it to argue for anything else.

Its the show that most producers on here spoof but cant be discussed.

A great thread. NHP was always epic in terms of gunge quality.

I'll throw another one into the mix. UK Big Brother had some amazing gunge. I recall one woman being gunged in pink and orange gunge which was gorgeously thick. And the contestant really didn't know what to make of it. From dread to just embracing it within 4-5 buckets worth! Some of the best quality gunge I've seen on television.

Noel's house party had a great gunge tank! But a show that dropped people into a pool of gunk would be the best.

I preferred Noel's Saturday Roadshow to NHP. The simple perspex box with a nervous contestant sat inside and an unknown outcome was perfect. Yes the trip round the house did provide good coverage but too many flashing lights and cuts to the audience for my liking.

I remember the scene. I have a strong feeling a certain disgraced former UMD producer was involved in that, it certainly looked like his style of gunge.

I quite liked the 'carwash' on NHP. The quality of gunge was spot-on. The Roadshow sometimes didn't quite get the consistency right for me - sometimes it could be more like hair gel! - although the thick stodgy slop dumped over Sue Lawley remains a personal favourite moment.

The quality of gunge on early series of GYOB was also pretty good (the series where the victim was just dropped in rather than using the ramps, although not the very first series for which very little remains), but it got worse as the series went on (presumably because it was cheaper).

One thing which NHP does score highly in is variety of delivery mechanisms. Not just the original tank but then the tank with foam, Panel Beaters, the aforementioned trip round the house, Hot House, the Carwash, the massive tank thing Michelle Collins was allowed to leave clean for some reason and I'm sure there were others.

Don't forget the Phone Booth.
I recall a most disappointing episode with the phone booth where the contestant lost and the tank just refused to drop, and she was in a bikini
Not knowing who how or when someone was getting gunged was the appeal for me. Sometimes the gunge would be too thick or the tank not working but it just made the next one more special.

If I remember the Michelle Collins bit right she had a lovely gold dress on and was in a clear tank with guy who had to pick up a £20 note off the floor with his mouth without putting his hands on the floor. To everyone's amazement and disappointment he managed it. Even Noel looked disappointed and considered gunging her anyway.

Shows like the DPB one for me get a bit repetitive as you get a whole season of contestants wearing the same clothes dropped in the same slop only difference is are they on the yellow team or blue(or red).

I Don't Know how to chose the best one, they were all so good.

I remember this one - there was either a beach or pool theme - and in my memory of it the contestant actually won, but maybe my memory is wrong. I remember Noel saying "I can see why they picked you" at the start, and then "I'm sorry fellas" at the end when she got away clean.

I don't remember this at all but as I had a huge crush on Michelle Collins at the time, that may well be for the best. I'm not sure I'd have coped with the disappointment. Maybe it's just my brain filtering it out to spare me the trauma

I think Noel's House Party had the best gungings for me. I used to tune in every Saturday as a kid to see who would be gunged. I loved the different ways of gunging too - from classic gunge tank to car wash tank to the infamous trip around the great house. Add to that the extra gungings in the number cruncher, panel beaters and so on.

Can't remember the show, but essentially the contestant sat in a perspex tank in the middle of the stage and took a bunch of questions from the host.
Standard issues correct answers wins a prize, incorrect answer gets you gunged.

Except this time the hot blond in the tank nailed all 10 questions and won the two week holiday to somewhere exotic, and got a shower of golden confetti instead of slime.
Naturally the host was prepared for this and the contestant being a good sport agreed to pull the rope at the back of the tank, unleashed a massive deluge of yellow and green gunge over her.

Not a clue what this show is but it sounds a dream hopefully someone can shed some light on this.
