Most of the time when people look at WAM videos or pictures their focus is the person getting messy. Compliments are sometimes paid to the producer but rarely a thought for all the elements that come together to do a shoot. I'm indebted to a great team of friends I have to work with on Messymayhem. Guest0 who not only built the gunge tank but works his socks off on the shoots. CandyCustard who lets me create havoc in her house, feeds us all, is chief gunge mixer and expert on all stuff messy. Henry who take fabulous photos and Annabelle who does a great job with the hosting. However there is one person I haven't mentioned without which it wouldn't happen is Dave.
Him and Hayley who run wwwTheGungeShop.com supply me with copious amounts of gunge for pretty much every shoot I do. Not only is it extremely reasonably priced, I always get it on time even when the order is somewhat last minute. It's well packaged and I always get what I've asked for. So a huge thank to Dave and Hayley. If you're in need of some gunge then I certainly recommend them! As for the quality of the gunge and what it looks like I'll let you be the judge of that! If you want to see more of Dave's gunge in action I suggest heading over to www.messymayhem.com
For years I have bought gunge from here as it's always been a good deal. I have bought bulk Natrasol from the Basic chemical company before and yes this was good stuff but was only cost effective when buying a large amount. You also have to factor it buying powder paint to colour it and the time taken to weigh it out and so on.
Another place to shop is Messysupplies but, though there is nothing wrong with their product, they are very expensive in comparison. You also have to spend a bit more for the thicker gunge (basically another spoonful of powder!) which is quite sad too as surely this is what everyone wants. If they sorted their pricing out they'd probably be a lot better off in the long run.
One of the things I always consider with gunge is that ultimately I'm going to throw it away. If a bucket of gunge has cost me 5-6 that's a good deal. If it's cost me ~12 and I'm using a few buckets then that's a lot. The difference between say 20 and 50 is nothing to be sniffed at! This is certainly true for a lowly solo-consumer like myself but surely must be a huge consideration for producers?!
Buying from Dave's eBay shop is my preferred way. The gunge is generally a good quality and it means that I only need to my a small amount at a time. I don't have the funds to invest in large amounts and I (sadly) don't have the time or space to get messy half as often as I'd like so no point stockpiling loads either. It's also great for getting single quantities of different colours too.
Every few months I buy some it seems. The only points to note are that if you don't stir the stuff well then you'll ruin it - Keep on top of this for the first ten minutes and you'll be fine.

Thanks I can't take credit for all the photos many are the work of Henry Wilcox. As for being an expert well that is high praise indeed coming from yourself madam. There's always room for more practice though if you would like to volunteer yourself?

I have always used plastic sheets and binned them afterwards but it takes so long to clear up. Is this stuff safe to wash down the plug hole in a bath or would you need to use sheets with it as well?
Thanks.
It usually dissolves in water (as its water based of course) but hot water is best. It may leave a residue but a soapy cloth will usually fix areas that cannot be rinsed. Note that when still moist it's very slippery stuff.
For washing it off yourself a hot shower and ordinary shower gel are all you need.
I'd say clean up is very easy with gunge. Easier than using anything else in fact as there is no smell to worry about and generally it doesn't stain things.
Thanks for the comments Bob. Looking forward to seeing your work from our latest batch of Gunge we've just sent you.
We've been getting fantastic reviews of our current Hydroxy Ethyl Cellulose Gunge, this is exactly the same as Natrosol with a different brand name and considerably cheaper than others !
We are using enough powder that the gunge is already thick or even ultra thick so you don't need to spend more on thick gunge. If you want thin gunge then just use more water and have even more Gunge to play with.
Heres a few comments we have received that may be helpful.
Hi Dave, Thanks for the really quick service. Having used branded Natrosol before, I thought the following comments may be helpful.
i) Your gunge mixes really easily. I think branded Natrosol has an inhibitor to stop the reaction until you've got a good mix going. Yours seems to react much more quickly. Since I've learned the hard (well, lumpy at least) way to ignore the instructions from the other suppliers, I get the water moving with a stirrer attached to a power drill and get my assistant to sprinkle the powder. This means I got a good dispersal and a nice even, though very thick mix. Doing it this way, your product is superior, requiring less time to get beyond the "gritty" stage.
ii) Your deluxe packs make really thick gunge. So much so that I wondered if you'd mis-measured the amount. I got nearly 9 litres of thick gunge and about 6 of very thick from each. It was quite a challenge to thin some of it down for my gunge tank (recirculating diaphragm pumps, wifi-controlled).
iii) The poor victims who got hatfuls of the thick stuff at our holiday club commented that when they added water it just got more gungey and worse! Gave them a good laugh, though.
iv) Bright colours pink and blue cleaned up really well - no evidence of staining the floors or bathrooms. We were using it as pretend "paint" in a drama production and it was very convincing.
Thanks again for the excellent service.
Just a quick one to say wow.
that was some good gunge. It was really thick, a little too thick could easily make twice the amount and still be tick. But it didn't have that strange smell like some gunge has and it kept watering down in the bath to make a gunge GYOB type scenario.
Very good gunge and very good service. I have left you a 5 star rating all round.
