Anyone else into this series? I've read a bit of the original short stories but none of the rest of the books. I've hardcore played through the games and adore them.
I saw the first episode and I'm pretty happy so far. I like Henry Cavill, but I was worried about him playing Geralt of Rivia. He has the look pretty much down, but no one can match the iconic voice Doug Cockle has been giving the character for the past 10 years.
I'm getting my snacks together to binge the rest of it tonight!
It worked overall, but wasn't perfect. Despite the awesome cold open, the pilot seemed pretty generic to me -- I felt like I was watching Kevin Sorbo's 'Hercules' at times. I also think they did a confusing job with the multiple timelines and with the lore. God knows what I'd think of it if I hadn't played the games first.
Still, some of the acting was very good. I loved the actress who played the Queen of Cintra especially.
I just watched it on netflix, but have never played the video game.
I was totally confused and didn't understand who anyone was, and they killed off a bunch of people as if it was a big deal but i didn't know who they were really so it didn't effect me.
felt like an off-brand Game Of Thrones, like MegaBlox to Lego.
Weird, i just asked this of my FB friends (no replies...i'm so lonely), I watched the first episode but wondered if I should continue? I am time limited anyway and don't like TV much, Not read the books or seen the computer game (don't game much either) so question: Is it worth it to someone who isn't a fan or knows anything about the story?

It should all come together by the time you get past the midway point, but the timeskipping and failure to establish the background of the world is a major barrier of entry for those new to the series.
Or, at least watch to episode two, because it has a nice song, an important new character, and strong performances that should give you a better sense of the quality of the thing.

Dude, I'm only up to episode 3 and I was thinking this too. Rated R Hercules with better music!
The show follows storylines visited in the books, but if you didn't know them already, you'd be like "who the fuck is this and why should I care!?" The time discrepancy really confused me too.
It's interesting to me to see responses from those who haven't played or read anything in the series.
There was definitely a lot of racewashing of characters too. Like Triss for instance I thought was lovely, but they could have CGed her eyes blue and given her some hair dye to look at least REMOTELY like how she's described. I'm happy with the Istredd changes though, that actor is awesome!
