As a wam-enthusiast who has spent an untold amount of time fantasizing about mud, it's safe to say that I am more than curious about a fragrance company that claims to have replicated the scent of dirt! Demeter is a relatively new fragrance company that opened in 1995, with their first three signature fragrances being Grass, Tomato and Laundromat. I happen to love any fragrance that smells like laundry, with Philosophy's Amazing Grace being one of my staples. While doing some research to see if I'm missing out on any other laundry-scented colognes or perfumes, I happened to stumble upon Demeter, and to my surprise, they've expanded their fragrance library to include everything from New Baby, to New Car and anything else you can imagine - they are bound to have a bottled version. With names like Pipe Tobacco, Kitten Fur, Cardamom, Paperback, Earl Grey Tea, Funeral Home and Play Doh, one's imagination is bound to run wild! The one that piques my interest the most is Petrichor - aka the smell of rain mixing with earth. I get visions of a couple frolicking in the mud puddles after a rainstorm. For a more literal translation, they do carry a scent called simply Dirt. The reviews are mixed - some prefer the scent Earthworm, which is described as a wetter version of Dirt. In the same family are Thunderstorm, Rain, Wet Garden, Green House, Dust, Grass, Fresh Hay, Pruning Shears, Stable, Mushroom, and Mildew. I want to try them all! They also have plenty of food-inspired scents that are sure to bring up memories of your first pie in the face or the sweet scent of cake batter that lingers on your skin the next day after you've been slimed. I'm thinking a combination of Cre Anglaise or Condensed Milk mixed with Graham Cracker could give the essence of a cream pie. Vanilla Cake Batter is a scent sure to do me in! They say that scents can trigger key memories better than anything else. I would love to spritz on a little bit of one of these and instantly become aroused as my mind is flooded with memories of past pleasures! Other dessert-scented fragrances that could conjure up some sweet dreams are Angel Food, Banana Flambee, Birthday Cake, Blackberry Pie, Butterscotch, Cherry Cream, Cupcake, Devil's Food, Dulce de Leche, Egg Nog, Honey, Hot Fudge Sundae, Jelly Doughnut, Lemon Meringue, Madeleine, Marshmallow, PB&J, Pistachio Ice Cream, Molasses, Raspberry Jam, Rice Paddy, Scottish Shortbread, Sticky Toffee Pudding, Strawberry Ice Cream, Vanilla Cookie Dough, and Vanilla Ice Cream. For those who are a bit into the kinky side of things, there are the scents Leather, Riding Crop, and Saddle. They even carry a scent called Cannabis Flower! I'm also very curious about Sugar Plum, Fruit Salad, and Folding Money - who doesn't like the scent of money? And when it's time to get clean? There are Bubble Bath, Baby Shampoo, Pure Soap, Clean Skin, Laundromat, Linen, and Holy Water (if you've been really bad!). They also have a new line of Slime Scents designed to add scent to your slime. Although I'm pretty certain they are intended for the little containers of slime that kids play with and not the kind that you pour over your head by the bucket full! Of course it caught my eye because I saw the word "slime"! I can't wait to try some (or all) of these! These would make a great gift for your wam-loving partner this holiday season. I'm curious to know if any of you have tried any of Demeter's fragrances and what you think of them. Which ones do you want to try? Which ones do you find most intriguing? You can find these and all of their other fragrances at demeterfragrance.com
"Mud! Glorious mud! If I am not going to wear this to sleep, I tend to layer it with something extremely green-planty for that whole garden smell. On its own, though, it reminds me of a very very specific patch of mud in a particular forest, and that's lovely. I'm so delighted."
aaaaaa, all of this makes me want to order some and light up my place a little with some fresh earthy smell now that we're heading into winter.
i went on a bit of a fragrantica rabbit hole and it's amazing to see how many perfumes try to capture that rainy/earthy/dirty essence, also through clay odour. i always like woody/foresty smells but the temptation to embrace smelling fresh out of a mud pit is so alluring. especially the description of this one leaves me a little delirious ~ https://www.fragrantica.com/perfume/Acidica-Perfumes/Earth-Zemla-54007.html
I didn't see exactly my ideal aroma there, so I'll share what it is:
A mudpit with a peaty-clay smell to it, in the middle of an unpolluted marshland surrounded by cattails, fresh air, with a hint of marsh marigold and sunflower.
"Earthworm" and "dirt" might be quite nice, though.
As for the wet dog suggestion...not my thing exactly but they should make it anyway, since I'd like to try that out on a park to see if the local canines go nuts.
