I'm not really into pies in the face personally, but I do prefer to see them delivered with a certain level of impact. When a pie shoots past the face and hits clothing, other people, the wall behind, etc. to me it creates a more exciting image. (or video)
Now, cut to what I AM into, and that would be fully body messy stuff, which can include the face. The point of my post is this: Most messy videos or photos show either a gunge tank dropping its contents onto the woman, or even sometimes only dripping or letting out a small stream. Muddy scenes generally show the woman gradually getting deeper and deeper or else gradually crawling into mud. Other videos show a bucket of gunge, but it's generally poured over the model, and usually not to quickly.
I would love it if the impact of pie hits was incorporated into messy material. For example, a woman is pushed full-length into the mud. There is splattering involved. Likewise, a bucket of sloppy mud could be thrown at the woman, covering her head to toe.
With slime or gunge, rather than have it slowly drop from above, how about the same idea, having buckets of it thrown hard at her? I think the reactions would also be much more fun than if they expect to be messed up a little at a time. Skits could be written where perhaps two interior decorators are putting up wallpaper and one brings in a whole bucket of wallpaper paste to add to the trough on the floor. Of course, she stumbles and throws the entire contents (at high speed) all over the other worker.
Another scenario might be to have a wading pool filled with gunge around the corner. A girl is led to the area and then roughly pushed in, enough to make a large splatter. The after-reaction would be awesome.
Some substances wouldn't be possible to throw from a bucket, such as molasses, but paint, cream, beans, etc. etc. certainly could. High-impact wam would certainly be harder to shoot, as studio spaces would have to be able to capture the flying mess that misses the model, but I think the effort would result in some very fun-to-watch material. What does everybody think?
Interesting poll. I tend to prefer slower messings but definitely interested to see what people in general prefer.
From a practical perspective, if the model gets totally covered in the first minute, what are they then going to do for the rest of the video? There's only so long someone can slop around in the mess once they are totally covered, and that's going to limit what a clip can be sold for, using the traditional max $1 per minute metric. Though of course if there are two or more people, one could get a total splattering all in one go, and then take her time enacting her messy revenge on the other one - I do actually have a skit sort of based on that idea in mind for this summer.
There could be a lead up to the fast messing. A girl threatening another, or getting some revenge but at first there is no suggestion of any mess. Perhaps one could even pie the other or smear something on her, making the revenge even more sweet. Once the main 'splat' occurs, she could writhe around, trying to get her balance but slipping, maybe falling in again if it's a pool, or being hit with a second pail of gunge if not. The messy girl could then make a mess out of the other girl. I think there would be easy ways to make it a long enough entertaining video, with the 'climax' being the fast messing of the 'victim'. If it's buckets, the victim could accidentally discover a last bucket, perhaps tucked around a corner and intended for her, but instead she throws the contents at her messy attacker. There are lots of ways to play this out.
I still like the slower pouring of mess too, but that's basically all we see lately, so some major splatterings would be a nice change.
Even with mud, the woman could be taking a shortcut or searching for her golf ball or whatever, which has been done before, but she reaches out over the mud and winds up falling full-length into it, rather than just getting her feet dirty, then her skirt, then her top, etc. She could also try swimming back to dry land, or stand up and fall in again. There are many possibilities.

I had saved it because lots of people have remarked that they love that image a lot. It certainly does have the 'splat' element.
As for the question about what to do if the full splatting happens right away, here are some possibilities.
1. The girl could attempt to wipe her clothes off, then slip and fall in the mess again. 2. The girl could remove messy clothing and appear somewhat clean, then fall in the mess again. 3. Same as 1 and 2, but instead of falling in, another pail of mess can be thrown at her. 4. We can watch her attempt to fix her hair, face, etc. between splatterings.
Finally, here are more splattery photos I have saved. I wish there was an 'after' photo of the 2 girls about to get muddied. The image library photos are obviously staged, but I'd love to see an actual unsuspecting girl getting stuff in pails poured on her.
Pails would be no good for treacle (molasses) obviously, but a mix of egg innards, or beans, or slime, yogurt, custard, etc. could all be pitched from a bucket.
One of these photos is from a Jayce video where, in one fast move, she rips off Dixie's dress and flings her into a molasses pool. This is the 'surprise attack' stuff I'm talking about. Of course, molasses is too thick to splatter, but it's still a very fun clip to watch. (Jayce, hope you don't mind me plugging this vid)
I'm totally with you, and I was doing just what you described for quite a long time. I based my approach off the old MoM show.... and basically had the model getting hit with buckets of slime coming at her from off-camera. It splattered her... her body... the backdrop... everything.
And the feedback I got? Slime fans wanted the slime to fall from above, i.e. the "regular" way. Throwing it hard and directly on the model didn't appeal to them. So eventually I stopped as there wasn't really an audience for it. That's probably why you don't see more of it now.
(Oh, and the Redd pic is an all-time classic. I bought the video solely based on that pic... and wound up being disappointed. The actual hit in the video isn't particularly as hard or effective as you might imagine from the pic. Perfect freeze-frame I guess!)
thank you for the plug! that scene was super fun to do!!! it was one of dixies first times getting messy adn we had her in a damn POOL of molasses!! she got broke in!! it was hilarious.

Judging by the poll results so far, maybe consider re-introducing it once in awhile. Perhaps have the usual pie hits, slow pours from above, and an occasional off-camera bucket of slime, just to keep people wondering what's going to happen.
I also like your bucket of water throws, though some feel it takes away from a messy scene by partially cleaning off the model. Again, I think the element of surprise is fun, as the model usually doesn't really know what hit her, based on how it looks.

I think what got me when I first watched it was the almost instant change from wearing a dress, to wearing very little, and within a SECOND, the splattering into the molasses! So a double-whammy I guess you could say. It's like getting a shock twice in a short time. So much fun to watch, especially her expression after!

Yeah, I've found there's sometimes a discrepancy between what *I* think looks awesome, vs. the buying public. Water throwing is one of those. It feels SO very slapstick, not sure why the dislike...
I don't mind slime from above. It's slow, methodical, it coats well. It's been done to death though, and hard to really change it much. I dunno. Throwing slime is way more visceral. And I love the look. Also, if you have the right model (like the short-haired girl Katrina, above) it's awesome. In her case I told her to "react" a bit, so she couldn't see when the slime was coming, but every time a fresh "wave" hit her, she'd get thrown back, whip her hair around, and shriek a little....
This image very much reminds me of a scene I witnessed one damp (not raining, but it had been) Wednesday in Scunthorpe Lincolnshire. The steel works there is getting a lot of press right now for all the wrong reasons, but in the 1970's it was very busy. Consequently the trucks delivering materials sometimes suffered spillages and turned all the roadside puddles a dirty brown colour.
A beautiful long haired blonde was walking along the footpath near a big puddle, she was dressed in white boots, white miniskirt, white blouse and carrying a white jacket. A truck happened by and ran through the particularly deep, dirty puddle and sprayed her from head to toe in brown sludge. I was horrified for her (but fascinated) when I saw what was about happen. Annoyed? The word doesn't get anywhere near the emotion the incident invoked in the girl.
