Hey guys,

So my girlfriend and I are planning another pie session again but she isn't a fan of shaving cream, she likes whipped cream because it's edible and tastes nice. We have tried aerosol whipped cream but I'm disappointed with how it turns out. It melts way too quickly and It just doesn't feel as good on the face as foam.

So does anyone know a good, edible and tasty alternative to aerosol cream that we could try? I'd like for it to be thick and heavy so it feels good when hit with it. Please note that I live in New Zealand so I don't have access to things like cool whip we are also going to be doing this in another hotel room so anything that requires a lot of cooking appliances may not be doable.

Just noticed you lived in New Zealand was going to recommend cool whip but my fault for not reading... Um you could try the chega mais or whatever that show is pies... I think they use frosting or they use some sort of meringue(egg whites whipped with sugar) hope this helps

If you have a handheld mixer, you can whip up some heavy cream. Or maybe do it beforehand and keep it in a cooler.

But seriously,Cool Whip alone in my opinion sucks as much as aerosol whipped
cream.You can try cake mix and water.Add water slowly until you reach the desired thickness.Use alone or mix in some marshmallow cream if you can find any.

whipped cream powder is great , makes a ton of whipped cream easily. It is available in New Zealand according to google. When you make it be sure to chill the bowl ahead of time helps it whip up real good , i added coloring when i used it was great. Hope this helps you. Doesn't melt like aerosol as it is real whipped cream .

Does real whipped cream leave a smell?

Yea it does leave a smell. I always (gf/ ex's) Aldo noticed it but usually it's stuck up nose. I've checked w friends at work if I still smelled

Yes, a very bad one after awhile too. BRING LEMONS!!! Citrus kills that odor fast!

We'd suggest you forget the dairy products and use something like Rich'n Smooth Tropic (others are available) whipped topping. Fairly easy to find in Australia and New Zealand - most cake decorating or semi-commercial baking suppliers will have this or something similar.

Cost is low and it whips up to four or five times volume, can whip to desired consistency soft peak, firm peak, hard, etc, stays fluffy and firm for days at room temperature, so you can prepare in advance. Tastes pretty good too if you like sweet vanilla. Lactose and gluten free. Also easy to colour.

It comes frozen in a 1 litre carton and must be defrosted for ~12 hours before whipping. Whips really very easily, only takes a few minutes with an electric hand mixer. Once it is whipped the product is quite firm, thicker than shaving cream, and very sticky - holds on well and coats nicely. Great for pies with good coverage, or for spreading. Doesn't melt away at body temperature like aerosol cream. Made from soy and doesn't turn sour like dairy. Doesn't hurt in the eyes and wipes/blinks out easily.

Cleanup is easy, just wash off with warm water and some soap or shower gel and shampoo. Dissolves away in the water and goes down the drain. The only residual smell is light vanilla scent on the skin.

Does it have to be 'whipped cream'-ish at all? Perhaps chocolate (or vanilla) mousse, or even pudding with eggwhites mixed in?

Redi-Wip makes an almond milk version of their spray whipped cream. It has the advantage of not melting or having the sour milk smell of the dairy version, and has a little more resistance than the dairy version. The down side is the can is smaller and more expensive, so it works out to be about twice the price.
