Give treacle a try. It's thicker than molasses and frankly doesn't smell as bad. Some international foodstores carry it here in the States, but you can also order it online through Amazon or some of the other sites. Great stuff, one of my favorites! Also works well when you toss in some golden syrup, cake batter, or other sweet substance.
