So I tend to get a bit nostalgic when going over these old scenes. (Deana is so cute! I look so young! Why are my jeans so baggy? What's up with that hair?!?)
But this one made me *really* nostalgic.... because with SS30, I remember exactly how ambitious I was. And the goal wasn't just "shoot a 3-girl scene with pies." It was more like, "Make a modern scene that recreates everything you love about slapstick comedy, including meta commentary on all the vintage silent movie gags and Three Stooges jokes, AND make it super mainstream so it appeals to people with no interest in WAM whatsoever."
So... Yeah. Also, I ran it through a sepia filter, which killed sales. But at least I was smart enough to also release the "colorized" (i.e. unfiltered) version.
This was probably the last vestige of DVD being king, and believe me... I went all out! If you bought that DVD (and a TON of you did, which is kinda amazing in retrospect), you didn't just get both versions of the scene. You also got a ridiculous and WAY-too-serious "documentary" (which is *not* getting released online anytime) and all our trailers to date (which now appear on the YouTube channel) AND an "opening menu" too! Just like a major studio release! Did I say I was ambitious? Yeah.... In hindsight, I was *way* too naive thinking I could make WAM really go mainstream, but I appreciate the effort and energy of that kid anyway. (Not his baggy jeans tho.) That kid also did the SAW parody a year later with Toshia, and that was probably the best version of "mainstream WAM" I ever did, so.... Stay tuned!
Anyway. The end result of me getting nostalgic while remastering "A Day At The Bakery" again.... is that I discovered a full-blown "Behind The Scenes" clip on the DVD! 23 minutes, edited to get just the good bits (all the pie hits with long aftermath, all the bloopers, most of the shenanigans).... And best of all, this one has the REAL sound. Which, honestly, seems like something I should've made available as a download ages ago.... But did I mention DVDs were big in 2006? Nonetheless. It's available now in the UMD and Vidown stores, so if you're still nostalgic for this scene, $5.99 lets you hear (and see) just how much fun Deana & her friends were having back then.
Oh yeah, and let's not forget the opening to the "colorized" version, which I personally think is the greatest acting I've ever done. (And yes, I know I'm alone in this opinion.)
