We knew it would come and happen, it was only a matter of time. This is the second time he has tried this shit. The Utah senator has introduced a bill that redefines obscenity laws.

They are trying to ban it because if they succeed, the next thing they will do is say all LGBT+ content is porn, and thus kill the community. No books, no Pride, nothing in schools or internet. Even existing would be a crime.
Unfortunately, I think you are right. They have drawn up the fear meter with all the bullshit about furries in schools and kids using litter boxes. Then they try to ban drag queen story hour because that is indoctrination. Yet everyone of them indoctrinates their kids in religious organizations, some of which are doing all the horrible things they are making baseless accusations against the LGBTQIA+ community. I would hope this would be a 1st amendment issue, but the way he is trying to do it may get around that. Defining obscenity is how they gave the FCC the ability to fine radio stations for certain words being said during certain hours.
One hope we all have is that some of the biggest consumers of porn are red states. So they would be continuing to anger the people that voted for them.

I would like to have your hope. But I know the party of the conservative, christian values behind this shit is also the party of mistresses and abortions. We have seen what they have done with Roe V Wade and that bullshit story of Roe being paid to be the face of abortion.

They are also the party of condemning gay rights, but some of the biggest consumers of gay/trans porn, as well as a huge user base of grindr.
You are right Vegas, wasn't there a massive uptick in Grindr use around the Republican convention last year? I see the effects of their LGBTQIA+ stance all the time. Those "values" they push resulting in parents disowning their kids is the leading cause of suicide among the LGBTQIA+ youth in my state. Bullying in schools is a close second. Bullying that is encouraged by those people who profess every week their love for Jesus and all the things he taught. They have to go to the old testament to find ways to hate people after Jesus said to love them.

They won't stop there. WAM (aka, *US*) will be basically forbidden, too. Won't be close to what they have in mind for LGBT+, but this community will, for all intents and purposes, be gone.

Supreme Court decisons can be overturned. See Roe vs Wade for the most recent example, also back in the 19th century a decision was handed down that racial segregation was fine and legal as long as the segregated provisions were "equal" - it took until the mid-20th century for that to be overturned and segregation made illegal.
So don't assume that the current free speech protections are forever.

As far as the second amendment, my biggest irk is idiots that think because some meth head or hood rat shot someone in a drug deal, I shouldn't be able to keep a firearm ready in my home or on my person for self defense... as someone who dealt with (for almost a decade) constant break in attempts and baseless-motivation death threats and threats of violence from mentally unstable and bigoted people around me (with zero help from law enforcement, local non profits, legal counsel, landlords, etc) why should I have to sit back and be a defenseless victim because some people are dangerously irresponsible or just plain sociopaths?
I once called the police at my old place during an active break in and was LITERALLY told they "don't respond to active break ins where nobody has been hurt yet." What the fuck kind of absurd bullshit is that? Yet, if some insane drugged up nutjob fixates on me because I live next to them and they don't like my sexuality and breaks in while fully voicing their intent to kill me and I shot them in self defense, in my state I would be thrown in prison and told I'm a "POS" because THEY'RE the victim (muh drug addiction and mentall illness therefore I'm the victim BS) and the legal logic in other such cases in my state is (even though I was on third floor,) I could just "jump out a window and avoid conflict." So yeah, this country is bullshit. By the way while the guy didn't actually make it in in that case he sure as fuck tried and the entire time he was yelling about how he hated faggots and he had to "kill me to change the world," while slamming a hammer into my door and saying he would "force me out of there eventually;" and no, cops did not respond. The kicker was the entire building was acting like he was some kind of victim after that too because he by admission was "high and drunk" and "had mental problems," you can imagine how that pissed me off.
Sorry, I didn't mean to veer the thread off topic so much but there is a lot of constitutional rights stuff I'm pretty passionate about after some horrendous life experiences, not that I wasn't interested before hand... also, not trying to become the next Zoidberg

Derail away because it is related. The conservatives have always hated the 1st amendment. They only want free speech that they can control. The liberals have always wanted to control weapons. Are there limits to the whole free speech thing, of course there are. When your words negatively impact someone else that speech is free from government prevention but not free from consequences. Why do people insist on skipping over the well regulated militia part of the 2nd amendment? If the regulated militia is meant to intervene when the government becomes too corrupt, shouldn't that militia need equal weaponry to the government. None of those gun people have an arsenal of weapons that would be enough to defend against the government. I want people to have guns as much as the next person, until it negatively impacts someone else, or has the ability to. However, along with that, I want more responsibility associated with the right to bare arms. When a child gets a hold of a gun and shoots another kid, the owner of the gun needs to be prosecuted. No more of this lifetime of guilt bullshit. I want the same charges against the owner as if they had pulled the trigger. People complained so much about the requirement for a lock for their guns that the manufacturers were required to provide locks with the guns to be used. Since the companies provided the locks, we need to punish the people who do not use them. Just like speech and guns, there is nothing wrong with porn until it negatively impacts the life of another person.

The states and jurisdictions that treat home invasions like non-issues are run by idiots who generally change their mind immediately if something like that happens to them personally thus proving the average bureaucrat/politician is an elitist POS.
Most states have a castle law. You cannot be the aggressor and you have to be able to prove you used appropriate force based on the threat. Basically aim for the kneecaps first. I strongly disagree with point 1. We need to stop saying people are mentally ill when they are not. We need to be willing to accept that there are assholes out there, that are of a sound mind that commit crimes. Having a different set of morals does not make you insane, or in a wrong state of mind. You never know what people will do when pushed to their breaking point. Breaking into a home to steal something does not make you in a wrong state of mind. There are people that case the place first and plan the break in. There are people that decide to go to home A vs home B. In most states, breaking into a home is a felony, there are also laws concerning the amount of force you can use to stop a felony. Walking on your lawn or cutting you off in traffic is not a felony. Your reaction to those acts might put you in the place of committing a felony. Make sure you know the legal amount of force you can use in your state.

They want to ban porn because it's controlling you that matters and porn for the people in it and viewing it are genuinely happy and free people in escapism
