I think I have let my enthusiasm and ambition get the better of me. When I saw a post about a gungetank being on ebay I got really excited.
It turned out that it was available for à 101 including the cost of it being transported to me in the East Midlands. That seemed too good a deal to miss.
I booked it all in..it arrived on Friday night &...it is far far bigger and heavier than I imagined in my naivete. The only place I could get it into was the garage....but it is too tall to stand up there. It is too tall for the conservatory. In theory IF it could go through the side gate (debatable..the measurements are very close) and if I could get it through the conservatory, it might stand up in the kitchen. But moving it is at least a two man job, probably 3..and I live alone. Moreover because it is SO enormous there is nowhere to store it. I am open with my friends and brother about what I do, but my parents are in their 80s and I really don't want them to know as I think it would make them very uncomfortable. So in short I have a gunge tank that I can't use. What a galah!
If anyone has any suggestions I am open to helpful ideas
If any Midlands /London producers or wammers are interested in acquiring or permanent loaning a gunge tank just PM me.
Failing that..love, sympathy and understanding are always welcome
Meanwhile I don't suppose for a second that most people are as daft as I, but there is a lesson here, for me at least, about not letting your heart rule your head, and about thinking things through.
I just get so excited about wam and letting my heart rule. I keep buying outfits on ebay that I think would look good on models. I have enough for shoots through to 2019 I think. I need to stop.
So there you go...not a great day for Slymsford
If you have read this far, thank-you. Here are some of my fave pie pics from assorted producers to say thanks for reading this somewhat downbeat post
Wow, what a bruiser! Maybe you can camouflage it with an outer shell that looks like the Dr. Who phone booth? Hopefully there is something out there that is the right dimensions and not too expensive https://www.google.com/?gws_rd=ssl#tbm=shop&q=dr+who+phone+booth+life-size And of course that's if it fits in your house
Would it look too out of place in the back garden? Something like http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/80198846/ around it could keep it clear from the elements, and give you a plain backdrop for shooting in. If you were confident you could even offer sessions in it to try and claw some of the money back.
(If you had a bit more time/money on your hands you could build a shed and turn it into a mini-studio too, and I like the idea of a TARDIS gunge tank as well)
Wwwwwooooa!!! I can't see the tank, all I see is a one person Russian nuclear bunker!!!! Ha, That's a pretty big box! I know it's easy for me to say but I reckon your best bet is to buy a shed and put it in there. It may need to be a big shed though. You could try and disguise it but it doesn't look like you'll easily do that. A few years back I thought I'd be clever and I built a tank, stuck it in the kitchen, used it and flooded the kitchen with 125 litres of NHP style gunk. Then when in a panic to clear it all, I realised I couldn't fit the tank back through the door so had to spend 2 hours dismantling it. Then afterwards realised if left the cap on the camera n wasted a 7 hour session!!!! So I ended up buying a shed to store mine in. But yeah, perhaps on it's side in one?? Also, always rule with your heart.... It's so much more fun.
Thanks for the suggestions and ideas both her and by PM.
What I failed to mention is I am the world's least practical man. Writing..brilliant..creativity..great...practical ability..totally non-existent!
However I am pursuing a couple of ideas. If I can get it a bit smaller, then filming in the garage might be possible. Or the ikea product cbc suggested might help, tho that might be difficult for me to erect.
Gungeking..I know what you mean about the bunker..& it is so much bigger & heavier than it looks in the pics!!! My heart goes out to you re the story about flooding the kitche, having to dismantle the tank & then finding you hadn't filmed. I should count my blessings
Honestly, if you want to cry at bad luck stories I'm your man!! I've made every mistake in the book, twice over, so know how it all works. Cutting the metal framework on your tank to shorten it may be a good way. But will take ages. I'll keep thinking for you though.
That is quite a piece of hardware, I don't blame you for jumping on the opportunity! You have my sympathy, and if you find a home for it at least you'll have a good story out of it.
