Can I get coverage and crust sticking like this using cool whip pies? Can anyone speak from their experience?

It does depend on how much you defrost the cool whip and how hard you pie them. But it's not always consistent. Shaving cream for that works best. I'm personally not a fan of shaving cream.

The look you are going for is very difficult to achieve with Cool Whip. I have found that while I like the splatter that Cool Whip can provide, that doesn't lend itself to crust sticking to a face. It just isn't sticky enough.

As the previous person stated, if you want a consistent look, stick with shaving cream, or something with similar viscosity.

I add sugary things to cool whip like frosting marshmallow fluff
Sometimes it's too sticky to splatter
So Ive played w limited success with having cool whip whipped w sparkling water
And then having some mixes w something w sugar
Had some super creamy ones w coffee grounds
And I believe baking soda and sprite
Kinda always making new guesses n seeing how they turn out
