Yesterday I had a WAM session with Maria (MyPieRogative). It's the first time I've done something like that, and I was a bit nervous beforehand, but it worked out really well.
I spoke to Maria briefly (for about 5 seconds) at the London splunch last month, but we didn't really get to know each other there. So, we did the same thing that she said in her FAQ: https://umd.net/forums/usa-messy-travel-announcement Basically, we met in a public place, then went off to a coffee shop so that we could chat for a while, then came back to my place.
I had intended to get all the mess ready in advance, and put up plastic sheets, but I ran out of time. However, that wasn't a problem because the whole thing went at a very relaxed pace. (It wasn't like taking a taxi, where the meter is running the whole time.) Maria helped me with the preparations, then we got started.
We played the "Pie Face" game (with the catapult). I know that some people hate this game, and complain that it's now impossible to find decent pie videos on YouTube. However, I'd say that if you don't get messy playing it then you're doing it wrong! Each time we lost, the other person would use a real (shaving foam) pie to supplement the small amount of mess on the springy arm. According to the rules in the box, the idea is that you keep going until one person gets 25 points. (You get points if the catapult doesn't go off on your turn.) By the time we finished, we were both covered in foam, and then there was an extra forfeit for the loser: strawberry Angel Delight, as per Maria's profile picture.
We then played "Rock, Paper, Scissors", using the second round that I saw in one of Alumi's videos: https://umd.net/forums/8-girl_shaving_cream_pie_vid_ (Basically, the winner of the first round points in a particular direction, and the other person has to avoid looking in that direction.) That went well, and one of the funniest moments was a surprise pie. I lost the first round, and Maria picked up a pie. I was just about to say "You seem confident" when she hit me with it! She'd forgotten about the pointing bit, but in her defence she said "I really wanted to put a pie in your face", which is fair enough.
We finished off with a couple of buckets of gunge, using my shower cubicle as a gunge tank. I was surprised that it was still warm, since the buckets had been standing for a while. Maria then helped me with clean up (e.g. putting the plastic sheets into a bin bag), which made the job easier.
Overall, it felt like I'd spent the evening hanging out with a friend. So, if anyone else is thinking about this, I'd say go for it.
Thanks for the review Flank!! That was so much fun! You forgot that we switched the PieFace game to 50 points because my hyper conpetitive streak came out and I wanted a chance to come back! Haha! I def hope to see you next time Im in london, whether it's for a session or just to hang out.
