Seriously though, I loved his cameos and I think Disney has been doing a lot right by Marvel but there are some things that have been wrong too. None the less, the world is a lot darker without his big smile and witty banter. And here I was hoping he might be a Watcher character in the MCU.
R.I.P.
I think Disney has done GREAT by the MCU. But Marvel in the comics is a hyper politicized convoluted pile of dog shit now.
1. Steve Rogers is now a HYDRA sleeper agent. So Captain America is literally a "Nazi" now. Also, possibly a zombie, as I heard he was dead...but now he's alive again.
2. Jane is now Thor because Mjollnir doesn't accept Thor again. I don't necessarily have a problem with this except that Thor isn't his title, it's his fucking name. Also, ever since she became Thor, she started talking in ye Thor olde English.
3. New Iron man chick is a fucking thief and stole Tony's shit. (No one knows where Tony Stark is) Also, she's a super genius but her name is ReRe... Seriously, I CAN'T make this shit up.
4. Ms. Marvel is now Captain Marvel who was originally a dude (More originally a DC comic character they now have to call Shazam). That's ok, so they wanted Captain Marvel to be their flagship hero, and a woman, that's cool. Except she's super unpopular because the writers suck. They keep rebooting her, and each time she gets deceptively more masculine. Meanwhile, they created a new "Ms. Marvel" who is a little girl with stretchy or rubbery powers that works under her. I've only read bits and pieces, but everything I see now is even more political than the original Civil War arc.
5. They keep rewriting characters to their political agenda instead of...I dunno introducing new characters. I guess it's easier to change the biggest womanizer of the X-Men Bobby Drake (Iceman) into being gay. Furthermore, doesn't that go against EVERYTHING the LGBT community has been fighting for with gay identity!? You don't BECOME gay!
It feels like instead of hiring new blood with English and literature degrees, they're scraping low for the social sciences and humanities. Which I may circle around and say is the EXACT opposite of the MCU.
With very few exceptions the MCU let's us go back to the days of "THIS IS THE BAD GUY, SMASH HIM!" Which is originally why we read comics, to escape reality with a more stark contrast of good and evil.

You're a little behind. Iron Man's back, Thor's back, Cap is back...Iron Man and Thor are definitely worth checking out because Dan Slott is doing Iron Man now and Jason Aaron is doing Thor, both excellent writers.

Yeah, I've got a subscription to Marvel Unlimited, which is a very cost-effective way to read their comics digitally (e.g. on an iPad). You pay $10/month (or $69/year), then you can read everything they've got. It's a bit like Netflix, except that they don't rotate/remove content; once it's there, it stays there. They add every new comic they publish on a 6-month time lag. They're also gradually adding issues from their back catalogue. https://www.marvel.com/comics/unlimited Even with that time lag, they've just added Avengers (2018) #1, which has the original trio of Cap, Thor, and Iron Man.
Personally, I really like the "Ms. Marvel" series. I think this was a conscious choice to increase diversity, since Kamala Khan is Muslim (like the writer). However, while that's a part of the series, it's not the dominant theme. There have been nice aspects about her meeting other superheroes when she's previously written fanfic about them.
"Gwenpool" (which has now finished) was also very good. It was pretty self-contained, so you could ignore the big crossovers/events, and it did some really creative stuff with metafiction.
If you just want to read "SMASH THE BAD GUY" then that's fine, but I'm not sure you'll really attract writers with English Literature degrees to do that kind of script They're more likely to write for Vertigo, e.g. Mike Carey wrote "Lucifer" and "The Unwritten".
Yea, the new Avengers is a good read so far too, but that's not surprising since Jason Aaron is writing that as well, I've loved him ever since I read Scalped.
