I was having a chat with someone here and we both realised that distance (and safety of meet ups) are an issue with our kink, and it would be awesome if we could get wet/messy over skype. My question: Is there any way of creating a trigger that can be operated by a text message?
I have looked online but my electronics skill is zero and I have just about managed to find parts that 'might' fit together where a person texts the number and releases a gunge tank:
Is this possible or am I in the realms of science fiction? If it is possible I would pay real money for someone to create one! #splosherGFwholivesinanothercountry
I designed and built a magnetic release that can easily hold my entire weight and then some. It is currently wired with a built in fail-safe timer, so I can use it as a release when I do self bondage.
However, it would be trivial to control the device from a computer or smart phone connected to the Internet. I have a robot car you can pilot over the Internet that uses WiFi to connect.
A solenoid valve may not work unless your gunge is under pressure, but that could be done without *too* much trouble.
You could also use a simple linear actuator to tip/dump a bucket. That would require minimal mechanical effort, and could probably be controlled by a pretty generic controller. A linear actuator would allow the controller to release a little gunge at a time.
So, all of the things you suggest could be done for well under $100. Of course, some knowledge, or a detailed plan by a knowledgeable person would be required.
Someone would still need to set up the scene, load the gunge, make the connections, and willingly sit under the dumper. It's always something.

From a fetlife person:
"It's definitely within the realm of reality. If I were putting this together I would use an app-controlled light switch. Just give your skype friend access and they could decide when to release it. You could do it yourself if you bag your phone. That just leaves whatever mechanism you're using."

The trigger is the easy part. You just have to work out the mechanical part. Your idea of using a solenoid to pop a balloon would be very simple, but it would be a one-off thing. I would prefer something the remote person could start/stop several times without warning.
Basically, you have a trap door that opens upwards rather than downwards, with a hinge on one side. When you apply force (pressing the handle or pulling the cord) to flush the toilet, you are pulling the trap door (flapper valve) open against the flow of liquid. When you let go, the weight of the liquid will push the valve closed. So, you could do a few small "flushes", whereas if you open the valve downwards then all the water/gunge will come out in one go and you'll need to manually reset it.
