My usual sploshing sessions involve mostly sweet dessert type foods, porridge, cream, chocolate sauce and lashings of custard. On the odd occasion I may use shaving foam pies.
However I'm thinking for next session, trying the Slosh Custard Pie FX product from Messy Supplies.
It sounds a pretty good product. The issue I have is that I have read a few reviews and it seems its a bit of a nightmare to mix to the correct consistency.
Has anyone used this product, and could give any advice. Any help, advice, information would much appreciated.
I've got a pie, and I know how the throw it.

I'm also interested in trying that. I just recently tried the ms gunge (xtra thick) and it was kind of easy to mix but it clumped a lot. I think there's a bit of finessing you have to do which I'll try with the methylcellulose gunge I bought at the same time. But yeah, I'd like to hear what people have to say about the pie fx. -dormant
I haven't had much success despite following the instructions and video but I'm not one to give up easily so I might try it again and mix a few packets with some shaving foam as well to help prop it up a bit. Or I might try using my stand mixer for it. Love a bit of experimentation... let me know how you get on if you do it
I would also do a skin test if you used the coloured versions, an OF model was making a video and when mixing, noticed her skin was turning the same colour as the pink slosh pies she was making, she went back to the tried and tested splurge spray

I have read that a few times with ms gunge, which made me not sure about using it but gave it a go anyway. I did a batch of thick last week and found it ok, did the two bucket thing and had the water ready in one, powder in the other and then added all the water at once. Read you don't want it too warm with their stuff also.
Works with an electric mixer. Melts too quickly to use in a shoot and very expensive for a meagre amount of pie mixture. "1 packet makes approx 10 pies" it claims. I would estimate 2 packs required for 1 decent pie. A dead loss.
Just whip up some real double cream or some chef's cream and have done with it.
Or if you want a foam pie, the avalanche foam Messy Supplies sell is very effective and better value.

Definitely goes lumpy on contact with the water if it's too hot. Just warm - 30 degrees C and it mixes well. The ms standard/thick gunge powder is actually all the same stuff - the thick is just a larger pack to go in the same (10 litre/5 gallon) measure of water.

Yeah the water was prob too warm and that's what I kinda figured. I bought an xtra thick and a methyl and the xtra was like double the amount. I'll make sure the methyl mixes better
It seems that it's a difficult product to get right, and not as straightforward as the instructions say. In two minds now whether to give it a go or not now.
I may just get 1 pack as a test.
I have read before that the temperature of the water is key. But by all accounts if you get it to mix up correctly, it needs to be used immediately.
Tried it once- the product has a notable smell (which would make since being egg based). This wasn't a bad smell or rotten smell of any kind, just one I personally found disagreeable and ended up flushing the batch before it was mixed since it was getting overpowering and hitting the gag reflex. (take this with a grain of salt mind; I also can't splosh with custard or ice-cream since the smell is overpowering. It's a struggle with creamy cakes.)
Also got some packs of the other foam type MS sells- haven't used it but the packets smell a bit like scented soap. It's rather to my taste. The foam pile is also supposed to last a lot longer compared with the slosh mix.
Either way you'll want an electric whisk to whip up the foam.
RE: portion size. MS also see paper 'pie' plates- these are hand sized (sideplates) and probably explain why you can get 10 pies to a pack.

I forgot to mention that. It smells terrible. Thought it was just me
