Hi all Has anyone made, purchased or adapted anything that creates a sort of device you can stand in front of and have stuff splattered over you? I am currently trying to devise one and it is very tricky to come up with a plan
I made a compressed air thing that blew a cylinder of whipped cream, that was cool but too much trouble than it was worth. I just finished a pieing thing but it doesn't throw more drops and flips.
Honestly I can only envisage a pie on a pole pivoting around an axle with a weight on the other end. Problem is to keep the pie from falling off it would have to go fast which is a little terrifying as it moves towards your face!
yep tried similar stuff with varying results cant get past lining up paper bowls of gunge on a board above me connected by awkward lengths of string or a pole/hookmechanism and pulling them tipping over me below or the other method is a mini see saw type thing to place a bowl one end and stamp on it which covers walls and ceilings more than me
If i create anything will share ultimately some kind of remote control fob to propel gunge over my whilst standing
Here's a thread where I experimented with this earlier this year...haven't had a chance to follow up and re-test or improve the design, but the basic concept works...

This would probably work. You'd need to experiment with a book or something that would match the weight of a pie. The beam would need a rubber-coated surface so the pie tin wouldn't slide off. The release mechanism could be made of a coat hanger, and a small string could be pulled to make it come out of a hook under the beam. If the weight was a large plastic jug, you could experiment with different amounts of water in order to control how fast it flings the pie.
Without going real large scale, like the old WWYD pie pod, I don't think it's really possible to make a huge mess with multiple pies that are as easy to reload as reset arm and replace pie. The problem is getting something to hold a heavier pie in a tin and throw it at speeds high enough to splatter all over. I don't know that you can do that with just tention on a small scale.
Great stuff guys many thanks I have seen a great device that blows out tennis balls for dogs but no idea if that can be converted to be effective with flan flinging, would probably take out an eye. thanks for you comments above all good stuff
Well, I have yet to try this myself. But I had an idea of modifying a spring loaded, pull string, skeet thrower. Mount it sideways, weld or bolt a plate to the end of the throwing arm.
I would image that some sort of stopping block would need to be fastened in order to stop the arm from completing it's full rotation.
I believe that it should have enough strength to propel a heavy pie... perhaps a little too much.
