I keep seeing messy videos advertised that feature a cute girl, great messy substances, and a title that draws my attention, such as 'Girl in Bikini gets Messy' or 'Clingy White Dress and Custard' for example. (made-up titles)
But upon looking at sample photos, they all are only showing the girl from the shoulders on up. So why the dress or bikini if we barely see it?
My preference would be to have a camera on the parts of the model as they get messy, so for example, starting with the head, then perhaps following globs of the mess as they drip down the model's body. Sometimes the model will look down at herself and appear to have her hands on her own body, but still, the camera is only aiming shoulders up, so you can only imagine what is happening because it wasn't filmed.
Anyhow, that's my main pet peeve. Thanks for listening.

We of course are only an amateur couple producing videos of our mess but this is a real headache for myself (Cinq) because I know what I want the video to come out like with various angles and zooms on action, wide-screen of the whole scene. Unfortunately this is not possible with only a couple of static cameras. Also trying to direct the scene when you are the subject of the mess isn't easy. My husband has got better at catching the kind of photos I'm wanting in order to share. But he is also taking photos, administering the mess and being directed. Its hard !! People don't realise how difficult it is to make these videos. The amount of times things go wrong also.
I always want to get the whole outfit in for me as its all about the shoes or feet bare etc. The only way is portrait but then you are confined to a smaller area. Landscape is fine for head and shoulders but I might wanna stand up so them my head gets cut off you can't see the messy shoes or feet. Very frustrating. Then I might wanna get on the floor in the mess !

I actually think your last sentence would possibly solve a lot of the problems. What if you were laying on your back in a wading pool? You could be hit with an assortment of messes in various places and it wouldn't be too difficult to zoom in and out to get your head at one side and feet at the other, shooting in landscape mode. You could then have times when the zoom would provide a waist-up shot or even just the face.
I know what you're talking about though, as far as difficulty in managing the camera, pouring substances, setting up scenes, etc. all by one person. I've been there. Another option might be to have another camera on a tripod, then edit between the two of them to create the final video, but this means more time required in editing. I do like your work in that it's not just head and shoulders, but we see more of you, depending on the scenario.
Now that's one of the funniest things I've heard. Jayce seems like a handful, and I really enjoy her videos. She's come a long way. There was a time, long ago, when I hear she used to write super-long run-on sentences that were half the size of a book!

Thank you for the compliments. Pools are good but then you have to take into the account of the side of it obscuring the shoot. Kind of have to fix the camera above it more so but then I have had cameras fall off the mount mid shoot ! Tryna fix it back all gooey and drippy haha x
I think there is a fairly substantial subset of WAM fans for whom it is all about someone getting pied in the face, and that really is all that particular market sector are interested in or want to see. I get the impression for those who have that version of the fetish, what the pie recipient is wearing is of little more interest than what the background behind them is, it's just that it's more traditional to describe a person by what they're wearing than what they're standing in front of hence you get "Girl in yellow dress gets pied" instead of "Girl standing by a red Ford Transit gets pied". To the intended audience neither the dress nor the van is of interest, it's all about the girl getting pied in the face. I remember past threads where pie fans complained that someone "wasted" a pie by landing it somewhere other than the target's face, even if the hit was to somewhere usually thought of as sexy like boobs or bum.
When looking for scenes to buy I always check the previews and description carefully, if it looks like it's going to be a headshot only or waist-up only scene, I know to skip it.
Over the years I think I've identified three distinct approaches to WAM but there are probably more.
1. Pie fans, only interested in pies to the face, and prefer close-up head shots. 2. Game fans, who will buy a scene even without knowing who ultimnately gets messy, because for them the gameplay and suprise ending are part of the fun. 3. Detailed messing fans, who want to see every detail of someone going from clean to messy, and want the previews and description to clearly lay out who gets the mess, what they're going to see, etc.
Then beyond that you have substance preferences, sweet, savoury, gunge/slime, mud, etc, and then style of shoot from full nude XXX to fully clothed PG, and a host of other preferences and sub-niches.
As to the peeve, I certainly think any scene that is filmed as headshot only should make that very clear in previews and description, there's little point in trying to sell such a scene to people who want to see full outfits, as that's most likely just going to end in at best dis-satifsfied customers and at worst, complaints and refund demands. Likewise though when selling a scene that involves pieing but is shot full-body, the previews should make that clear so close-up pie in the face fans dont't end up buying and being disappointed.
Bit of unsolicited advice for those producing vids: if your camera can do it (and most phones nowadays can) shoot 4k (or higher), finish in 1080p. It opens a lot of possibilities for cropping/zooming the image in post. (i.e. you can shoot a wide shot, then crop in to get your closeups and still have an HD image). I produced a (non-WAM) movie last year (it's on Amazon, there are kids in it, so I won't link to it here). I didn't have a tripod with a fluid head and was operating under the Robert Rodriguez/El Mariachi mandate of "refuse to spend any money," so, except for one or two shots where I was able to borrow a gimble, all camera "movement" in the film was done in post. It's been shown on a 40-foot theater screen and looked fine. There are even 1 or 2 shots where I had to use essentially a 720p crop, those started to look a little mangey on the big screen, but on a TV, computer monitor, or anything smaller, they look fine.
